Anyone have any advice on an affordable tonneau cover? I’m considering the Gator SFX soft tri fold. TIA

I purchased a trifold for around $400. BUT. On my previous taco I had a one piece fiberglass top. I would go with the trifold. I recently had to get some wood and with the solid one piece I would have had to remove it (PITA) this I just folded back 2 sections and done. You will also want a solid trifold so you can have a solid top. I can stand on mine.

I opted to NOT go with a soft tonneau cover because as I was driving around, I noticed just how many soft covers flap and bounce around which would drive me nuts. I decided on an aluminum Lomax tri-fold.

    I also went Lomax.

OP: There is a Lomax thread in the Tonneau section with a couple of vendors who should be able to give you a very competitive quote, depending on your budget.

My choice as well. I 100% recommend that cover. I researched a lot on TW before making the purchase. It’s a fantastic choice, looks great, and allows super easy access to the bed if need be.

    Yeah I never owned a tonneau cover. I didn't know much about them. I KNEW I 100% didn't want the factory tri-fold.

After doing research here, and many of you guys comments (thanks), the truxedo lopro fit my needs perfectly and had great reviews from all you owners.

Hope I can install myself tomorrow :)

I have 100% faith you’ll be able to install. Very straightforward. Let us know if you need help though. Good luck.

Ive got a retractable tonneau that came with my truck when I bought it for the 1% of times I do have something in the back I want hidden and/or protected from the elements. It takes up about 10-12 inches at the front of the bed at all times.

    pros: no folding
items are secured when the tailgate is locked
cage to store retracted section acts as a buffer between anything I haul and my back glass
Actually quite water tight to keep items dry

    cons: not easily removable
raggedy and falling apart due to poor quality
In the way when I do need that extra room in the short bed

For me, it’s gotta be a hard shell if I were to make a purchase. And then people wouldn’t bother me to help them move some large, ridiculous, antiquated piece of hand-me-down they just bought off of craigslist

I just installed the low profile tri-fold aluminum cover from Gator today. Will update later. However since it’s in the 20’s today, the rubber was quite stiff. Good quality and took about 45min to install.

I went with truxedo soft roll up from Truck Hero..great if you need to use your full box. But if you wanna have that excuse it won’t fit in the back of my truck with someone who wants something moved go with the trifold. A friend of mine has one he’s been using for five years now and it is still in great shape.
