I have a 2023 Tacoma Sport. I am able to connect to Android Auto with a USB cable but I cannot get it to connect over Bluetooth. During the connection process, I get to the point where it tells you to press the voice command button on the wheel, and nothing happens after that. Starting to wonder if I need an adapter or something?

Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has been successful in connecting android auto via Bluetooth.

You can skip Android auto and just connect with Bluetooth but it will not mirror the screen. You will just be able to play music and take calls over it.
If you want wireless Android auto then you need a dongle that you plug in and leave connected to the trucks media usb port.

I have the Carsifi wireless adapter, but there are others like the Motorola A one, and AA wireless Android auto adapter. Some of them were originally Kickstarter products, that's how I got the Carsifi. It works pretty good but it uses it's own wifi between the adapter and your phone so sometimes there is interference that causes a second or so of audio drop out if you are near a wifi on the same channel. Its still very convenient and only takes a few seconds longer to connect up when you start the truck up. You can keep you phone in you pocket which is convenient for shorter trips.

I just ordered the Motorola A1. It will be nice to just jump in the truck and have it connect without having to plug in the phone.

I also plan on ordering one of those Motorola A1 dongles. Wish there was an easier way of hiding it though.

I was thinking about using 3M tape and sticking it to the top of the charging pad cubby. That will depend on how long the cord is obviously.

The Motorola donlge works really good. I used velcro and mount upside down on the top of the wireless charger cubby. Velcro is good just in case you wanna unplug the dongle and take it out 20230411_145153.jpg

That should work for any of the wireless dongles as they all come with a similar type of cable. My Carsifi is mounted with mounting tape in that spot for almost 2 years

Does the MA1 turn off with the vehicle, or is it constantly powered on? Perhaps I should ask if the USB port powers off when the vehicle shuts off? I really don't need to be running the battery down at 0 degrees.

The media usb port you connect to only has power when the truck is running or in accessories mode so it gets powered off when you turn off the truck.

Got the MA1 today. Stupid easy...plug in, pair and away you go. A little sticky Velcro and it is out of the way. Seems like it will be the ticket to wireless Android Auto.
