    Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum and am looking at buying my third Toyota truck in the past 25 years but had a question about the composite bed. What are the pros and cons and what do you all think of them? BTW my last truck was an '04 tacoma.

Seriously though only con i can think of is it’s slippery. A bed mat is a must have. I’ve had 4 toyota trucks. A toyota truck 2 tacoma’s and a tundra. I really like the bed in the 2nd gen. tacoma’s. No liner needed.

It's great, the only con as stated above, is that its slicker than dog shit. Tie stuff down or get a mat. It will slide.

    Build thread coming soon!
Composite inner = no way to weld outer boxsides on.
    = bolt on panels
= no multiple layers of steel holding dust/moisture inside layers
= no rust over wheels 10 years later
    = composite bed FTW!
And definitely, DEFINITELY, get a bed mat.

I agree that it's slippery but if you buy a truck the bed is going to get messed up. Even if it was metal and painted that would still scratch. The composite bed is full of win. Plus you cannot get a Tacoma that is 2005 and newer without it, it is standard on both bed sizes.

And a bed, at that. My bed gets covered in dust and grime after a few days, why worry about a few scratches?

I look at it like this; if you had just a painted bed, everything slides. If you get a bed liner, everything slides! I have had mine for 4 months. I know it will never rust on the inner bed. Probably easier to change if you do break it than a metal bed. Once I bolt in a tool box the bed will be cool! In the winter it should melt snow faster than a steel bed! so far I like it and I like the cubby boxes in the back. pretty versatile.

I use the composite bed for construction work!! I abuse the bed and it holds up fine. As far as things sliding around I keep and adjustable bar with me to hold stuff in place. The slick surface is avery nice thing for me, as I can just put material in the end of the bed and push it in with little effort. Those little pockets are really handy also!! Saved me money from buying a plastic bed liner...I give the composite a thumbs up!!

THe surface layer and finish melted on mine with a catalyst that wouldnt melt a plastic bottle.

I havent got around to trying a heat gun yet, might bring it back.
