Hey all, I am wondering more about the differences between these two transmissions and if anyone has information on the plugs and what they technically do.

From what I Can see they are nearly identical and wondering if this might be an upgrade for people running an a750f transmission.

Does anyone have access to both and can take some detailed full res photos to share?

I did see that a lot of shared parts including gears 1 through 5 are all identical and the a760f gets a second overdrive gear and one more lockup.

Is the Aisin760f in the 3rd gen? I didn't see that it was at least on Wikipedia.

I wonder if they would bolt up to the 1 gr fe

No. the third gen tacoma does not use the a760f. it uses a similar transmission to the tundra called the AC60F. I am not sure who messed up and removed it from the list in the a series transmission list on wikipedia. I have had to fix a couple transmission models because they changed it to coming out for one year.

With the 3.73's in our trucks stock for the 1gr... the final drive is almost identical even without a second OD. the single vvti 1gr (and even more so the dual vvti 1gr) would be better suited to the double OD of the 3rd gens 6 speed due to more low end torque... you really dont gain much of anything over the 5speed in our current trucks.

This would be a different story if they added a gear between 1st and 4th (1:1) however. I have always felt the need for either a 2.5 or 3.5 gear in my truck haha.

The idea behind being able to use this transmission is a bolt in option that allows you to directly swap without changing anything else. This would allow you to use 5.12 gears while still being good on the highway. also the gear ratio's you mention are nearly identical between the a760f and the ac60f minus 5th and 6th and a much better reverse. when paired together.
If you were able to use the 3rd gen tacoma transmission without much hassle you would have to consider the AE80f from the 5.7 lx570 which has an 8 speed auto and a 4.795 first gear ratio. it also runs a .672 final OD. so not too much different then stock overdrive ratios but a much better ratio working up to it.

and up to 5th gear the a750f and a760f are identical. so you get a second overdrive that allows you to gear down more.

    Just for clarification

I saved the pdf if someone wants to take a look. at the top of the page is a button to go from SAE to METRIC depending on what you prefer. I used the 4.6 (1urfe) gearing and stock tire sizes as this is what I am comparing to for my truck.

What do the bell housing bolt holes look like? Any chance of lining up?

from everything I have seen minus the actual a750 side by side with the a760. its identical including the bell housing. which also means that you can hook up the 4.6v8 to the a750f (as found in the lexus gx460 and landcruiser pre 2010)
the biggest problem faced is if the transmission will just go in and bolt up and work. highly doubt it but with the ecu it would be an option. IE an a750f with an 4.6f that came with the same transmission pre 2010 should control said transmission.

You guys would want to go through the hassle of figuring out how to make the Tacoma ECU recognize an extra overdrive? Seems like it would be easier to just buy one of the following vehicles which come with it from the factory:

    • 2010-2019 Toyota Tundra 4.6L 4WD
    • 2010-2019 Toyota Sequoia 4.6L 4WD
    • 2010-2019 Lexus GX 460

if you cant figure it out, thats your issue. effort physical or mental is also free. I am installing the 4.6 with the a760f and decided I would be nice and see how the 6 speed auto could be adapted to the stock v6 before I install the future powerhouse.
The point of the 6 speed auto is to give people the option of good mileage AND power/low gearing with the stock motor. transmissions are simple compared to turbo's.

@JustDSM Didn't the transmission tables in the hptuners have an option for a 6th gear?? I could swear I remember some talk about that.

a340f is the transmission and depends on what you mean by upgrade.
not really the type of deal we are talking about here. you might consider searching the 1st gen tacoma sections

are you thinking like using the HP tuners to control the transmission and the motor? or even just the transmission?
anyone I have contacted regarding using an aftermarket controller has said no.
