I have been using balance beads for my tires for years. My mechanic got me using them. Never an issue. Well i just got new tires, i brought the beads for them, so i wouldnt have to wait for them to order and what not. Great, everyone's happy. Mechanic says its great, a little vibe at 50mph.....Well, they closed as i paid and i left. If what i had was just a vibration, this guy must be an epileptic. The steering wheel shook at speeds between 40 and 65mph. Wtf. So, im.home, thinking about it. I have one car now, the Tacoma. I called discount tire today and they got me in right away. Out of the 5 tires, 3 had BAGS of beads in them. They never broke open the fucking bags. Fyi folks, you have to break the bags open and pour them in. So they road force balanced my tires and life is good. Everything is perfect now.
Ill call my mechanic monday and put it on him to decide how he should make it right. I want a refund. But we'll see what he says.

So, for everyone else out there , if you do want to bead balance your tires and a shop does it, dont assume they have a clue. I obviously had the shop stooge that never did them before. Cut the bags open, pour them inside the tire.

Discount tire said that the balance was easy to accomplish and gave me a lifetime balance , rotation and road hazard. I didnt even buy the tires from them. But if i trash one on a trail, they will replace it. They deffinately have my business now.

    Never assume.

I've always had my tires balanced using the Haweka adapter since owning a Toyota.

    Never an issue.

Evidently there’s more than one manufacturer of balance beads.
This manufacturer literally throws the whole bag in the tire.
Maybe the tech didn’t know what they were, pulled a video(like the one below) and tossed the bag in.
I never even knew of balance beads until about weeks ago, when some one here posted about them.

I used them on sport touring bike tires. Dynabead works great.

The Semi Truck guys have been using them for years. No idea why it hasn't filtered down to regular cars and trucks.

Better sympathy at a tire forum man.
    1. Balance beads are for hard to balance tires.
    2. Balance beads are installed both ways, in a bag and pouring them out, depending on mfg.
    3. It is uncommon to use balance beads. Never do uncommon at a shop.

Ran tire shops for 15 yrs, never saw beads in tires or anyone request them. Beads are band aids for techs that don't know what their doing or are to lazy to do it properly.

Beads are for tires/wheels that can't be balanced otherwise. Using beads instead of a proper balance is lazy and dishonest

    bead balancing = snake oil

i would NEVER use them on my lawn mower

no less if U think a worn tyre in need of replacement

is balanced after U done MORE turns in 1 direction than the other

stop while applying brakes exactly same spot & pressure each every time

accelerated from Every stop the exact same

Ur welcomed to my beachfront condo in azzakahn

I’ii throw n requent flyer miles cuz im a good guy...............................

I've used Discount Tire for more than 20 years, never had beads in my tires (or anus) and never had an issue with balance.

Balance beads are definitely not “band aids” or “snake oil” or only used by lazy mechanics. Lol
They’re an constantly active way to balance a tire and IMO they work really well. I’ve used them on everything I could from big trucks to trailers to motorcycles (they can’t be used on certain, lower profile tires like my wife’s car)
There’s a certain amount (weight) of beads that must be used on a certain size of tire though, depending on the bead manufacturer. Some companies make pre-measured bags of beads that are meant to be thrown in a tire, bag and all, others need to be weighed and poured loosely into the tire.
I use either CounterAct or DynaBeads that I bought in bulk years ago. I just look up the tire size on the manufacturers chart, weigh the beads on a cheap little digital kitchen scale and throw them in the tire on the tire machine. Easy.
My tires are balanced and I don’t have to look at ugly, hammer-on weights or worry about the stick-on weights falling off or getting knocked off while off roading.

Beads can't compensate for lateral imbalance like traditional weights can and they move around under acceleration forces, both laterally and axially. They can cause worse imbalance on radially out of round tires.

Maybe, but I didn’t just read about them on the internet and decide they’re wonderful. All I know is from 10+ years of using balance beads on my fleet of work trucks and trailers with hundreds of thousands of miles and on my own personal vehicles (some of which I ride really hard). The Pros outweigh the single Con.
If you buy decent tires and your rims aren’t bent, IMO, balance beads work well.

I’m the first to admit I’m no brain surgeon, but you’re calling me a fool for using something that’s been proven to work by myself and others? Ok then.........
