At the dealer today getting my 65,000 mile tire rotation and balance on my 2016 and the service provider brought up something I've never heard of before: a Toyota combustion chamber cleaning service. Supposedly it "performs a chemical flush of the intake manifold and combustion chamber." Is this guy BSing me or is this a valuable service? What's the difference between one of these and say, buying a can of seafoam from an auto parts store?

    Thanks in advance.

It's not part of the maintenance schedule, nor do these engines have issues with carbon build up thanks to the D4S injection system.

It can help some vehicles, but I would say your instincts were right.

So what I'm hearing is they wanted to charge me $157 to pour a bottle of injector cleaner into my gas tank?

Do the same using a spray bottle filled with water (1-2 cups )

    1) Remove air intake hose from the throttle body

    2) start engine and rev engine to 1500rpm and hold it at that specified rpm

    3) spray water into throttle body ( if engine stumbles stop spraying water ) wait a minute and continue spraying

combustion chamber service? yea no waste of money. A BMW or the likes without port injection its good practice to do a service to clean the valves, toyota has a cleaning mode for the 3rd gen engines where it keeps the injectors clean as you drive. dont waste your money

more than likely this is what they'd do.

I just had a dealership tell me the same thing I told him I was good I'll go to auto parts store and get some seafoam I put it in my truck every two or three months anyway. They also tried to sell me some new spark plugs. I told them I just had new spark plugs put in last week why do I need new spark plugs in a week? Then they tell me I need a new battery because my battery failed the test. I just put a new battery in July of 2019 is a 84-month battery so why do I need a new battery? And they want to charge me $130 for a battery that's only 2 years old. Dealerships are all about money

Tell them that you'll pass on the combustion chamber cleaning service. Instead they should focus / double down on that floor mat inspection.

Nothing but a profit maker for the dealership, just like all "flush" services.

Tell me this, how would you even know if the dealer performed the service? Are you willing to pull the cylinder heads, take photos, reinstall the cylinder heads, go to the dealership and have them perform the cleaning, come home and again remove the cylinder heads to see if they are cleaner than the photos depict?
