So most of you been seeing me kicking around here for a while now. I have a question for everybody, I know I’m gonna get many answers on this. I have a KN cold air intake installed on my 2011, sounds nice you get that deep moan when you hop on it, but that’s getting old for me and I don’t think we get much benefit from a cold air intake versus OEM, can a few of you chime in on this to see what everybody else thinks

The OEM intake is already a "cold air intake" since it pulls air from the fender well. Feel free to install whatever tickles your funnybones but basically nothing on the market is going to give magical gains to your horsies. People will claim it makes their butt dyno feel faster, you can search the Performance & Tuning subforum to validate those claims yourself...

I just ripped my aftermarket cold air intake out a few weeks ago after installing it around 2019, reinstalled the stock air box, and re-routed the air hose through the firewall to the cowl area. The aftermarket was pretty worthless and I got tired of doing the K&N clean instead of just dropping in a new filter. I’m in the dust bowl, so had to clean the filter often.

    OEM (Wheel Well) intake
    Cowl Air Intake
    Warm Air Intake
    Snorkel Air Intake (Dust/Rain intake)

Would rather go with Cowl Air Intake as
I personally dislike tall obnoxious Snorkels, it does not need to be that high up.
If the water is higher than the bottom of the window line, I have bigger issues to deal with.

but it’s all about choice and what works best for you.

    Cowl Air Intake

URD Intake is the only true intake for the 4.0 that has gains.

    Hello,
I want to get rid of my cold air intake and install the original one. Did you do it yourself or is this something that requires a mechanic?

So I had the firewall air intake DIY system in my truck for a while. Eventually it would choke itself up with leaf debris and leaves, and such. This would happen because I placed a small mesh screen inside the tube before the filter, to keep more crud out the box. I got a feeling the air could flow better than what it was, so I decided to modify my intake setup yet again. Here's my iteration.... Built from cutting up a K&N intake tube, and just playing with parts. Less air travel, quicker response due to a lessened length, and I like the response and sound with the new Borla Pro XS dual in/ dual out exhaust. Much better than the Magnaflow ricer sound I had. Anyhow, hope not to rob this thread, just giving my opinion. 20241103_185434.jpg

So it is a Hot Air Intake, since it is in the middle of the engine bay above the engine?
