Is there any evidence of any mpg increase with the addition of a cold air intake on an '04 Tacoma? I know there is an increase in hp but not sure it would be beneficial for gas savings.
    Thanks for any responses!

    HP increase? No. MPG? No.
If there really is, it's <.5%

All you *might* get with a CAI is a slightly noticeable sound they make when accelerating, some people like it....not sure it's worth the money though.

Think about it, they're located in virtually the same spot as your stock air intake, how is the air they're pulling in significantly colder than it was before? Definitely not enough to make any kind of difference.

Save up for headers and exhaust if you want a (albeit slightly) noticeable increase in power and possibly MPG, and an awesome sounding truck ;)

OP, I see that you are new here.

Don't ever bring up cold air intakes here. If you keep it up; the polar ice caps will melt instantly and the world will flood in a matter of hours.

If you must discuss cold air intakes, please blanket your interest with a "snorkel system" inquiry. They aren't for traveling through water BUT for keeping your intake above a dust level. But,shhhh, keep that between us okay. ;)

No interest in sounding better (doesn't help the wallet any) but if there is no performance improvement I think an OME kit is in order!

    Thanks for all the response!!

Cold air requires more fuel, if anything your mileage would go down.

Deck plates are off of boats. They are like a big screw in cap. You cut a hole in your air box and install one. Remove it when you want loud noise and dust in your engine. Keep it screwed in for the latter.

It's less Tacoma and more mod
It's a real mod, but it's as practical and benifical as a joke.

When I bought this truck, it indeed has a K&N intake , and the California carb compliant MAF .
I was looking at the shroud, which has a seal to hood , and see the size of the hole, where intake air comes from in the side fender apron.
If you also look at some of the other after market air intakes , Voliant , probably not spelled right, but their filter is in a 3 sided box.
My point, blocking engine bay temperatures , and a larger air supply, may be beneficial .
The factory air box, is fairly restrictive.
All said , the only way you could have a cold air intake ....
...a block of dry ice in front of the air supply
