I have the K&N on my 2016. Was wondering what the gains differential was between that and the TRD intake.

It's an aesthetic and engine noise mod. Any claims of power gains are purely anecdotal, as the stock intake is already pretty much optimized. Also, oiled filters allow more particulate through, which you should consider if you drive on dusty roads a lot.

    Trd adds 25 more hp.

No, but seriously tacos intake is well designed, same airbox as 5.7 tundra. If you want more noise and maybe a slightly better throttle response then get whichever one you like. I would avoid the open filter style though. I did the hps tube with air flow accelerator, great noise makers.

I had k&n intake on my 4.0 ranger and it made a big difference at lower rpms, also the throttle response improved quite a bit. Rangers intake was quite restrictive though, intake on a 3rd gen taco will not add any power.

Contemplating a purchase of the Magnuson SuperCharger. They suggested either stock intake or TRD. Maybe I just put the stock unit back on during install of the SC..?

Did you read some threads regarding the magnuson? There are a couple videos from a TW member and currently this kit provides no additional power below about 3k rpm. He was quite dissapointed that he spent 6500$. I would wait untill they come up with a better tune or figure their stuff out. Just my .02c

this^^^ wait for a better tune and see what additional parts those that jumped on it first needed to add to get the most out of it.

Thanks for this tread guys. Was considering a CAI instead of the stock airbox until I read here. You have to admit the OEM CAI looks pretty cool but I'm looking for MPG not vrooom vrooom sounds for $375. I don't need the +25 HP at this point.

for that amount of money, look into RIPP coil packs, dyno proven power, plug n play replacements...

Best way to squeeze more MPG is to do the following:

Remove any additional weight in the truck. It takes fuel to haul weight.
Keep the tire pressure correct. Soft tires kill fuel efficiency.
Tire alignment. Scrubbing tires needs fuel.
Maintain the engine, drive train. Tune-ups, lubricant, fluids all battle friction. Friction eats fuel.
Gentle acceleration, stay less than 2500 rpm, <2000 rpm is better.
Lift throttle prior to stopping. Give some distance to bleed off speed, ie coast a bit.
Learn to drive with a light right foot.

Add-ons that claim MPG increase is usually a very marginal if any bump. Tonneau covers, Intakes, Exhausts.........just to lighten your wallet with little or no gain.

Bought the TRD one - typical Toyota quality, everything fit perfect. My impressions, makes more noise, more resonance, more "suck sounds". Buttdyno - hard to tell. Definitely pepper on the throttle response, but doubt its making much more peak HP. All said, I'm happy with it, but needed to stay CARB compliant. Throttle response is better which to me is worth it. Everyone measure value differently.

Aftermarket "cold air" intake will not increase fuel mileage. No freaking way.

I don't have a CAI. but I did put in a K&N "high Performance" filter, and I have to say that I have noticed a minor improvement in throttle response. I won't say I got more horsepower, but the engine revs better, and when going up hills, it does not downshift the way it used to. With the OEM filter it would have to downshift and rev up to about 3k RPM to maintain constant speed up a hill. Now, it just increases revs to about 2500, and will cruise up the hill. It may be worth noting that I have a TRD exhaust as well, and that may contribute to the improvement. (I bought the truck used, with it installed already).

Thats a pretty dumb question. Of course with stickers, strategically placed though.
