Cold Air Intake at High Elevations?

I recently purchased an 09' TRD Sport Double Cab and I live in Albuquerque, NM at high elevation (~5300 ft) so the air is thin! My thought is that I'm already at a disadvantage because of the lack of air entering the combustion chamber and could use as much air flow as possible.

Now I've read completely mixed reviews that either (1) the tacoma already has a "cold air intake" so it's not worth the money or (2) people can feel a slight boost in power (~10hp), beefier engine sound, and maybe a very slight increase in gas mileage, all of which I would really like to add to mine.

So I was just wondering if anybody in a high elevation area has experience putting in a cold air intake, or possibly the high flow dry air filter that i've also read about, and if they have had any positive results with either one of them.

    Thanks for the help!

Not worth the price if you're looking for power IMO.

I'm supercharged so I don't know exactly how much of this will carry over to your platform but performance-wise I didn't notice much. The throttle response off-idle was slightly better but that's about it. These truck's intakes are already engineered awfully efficient so there's not much performance to be had from an aftermarket intake.

If you want noticeable power gains start saving for a supercharger.

A cold air intake may help you a little by you would be better off getting an aftermarket filter to help you out.

If you not have emissions testing, remove the secondary air filter, which does nothing but restrict air flow. IMO
A high flow primary wouldn't hurt.

So I think I'm going to stick with the drop in dry air filter plus removal of the secondary carbon filter. any recommendations for the drop in filter? AFE pro dry s? K&N? AMSoil?

    Thanks!

Sorry but the restriction is the intake itself with the resonators/internal baffles and kinks/chambers.

U can run the stock intake with the air filter out and gain zero hp.

U can rip out the charcoal deal and gain zero hp.

U can take out both and still gain zero on a dyno.

Throw a better designed intake on the truck and gain some hp.... Not massive, but the whole thing is, the stock setup is flawed for performance and is perfect at quieting things down which is what the masses want.

I live in Flagstaff, at 7000ft!

I got a URD TCAI. I only have my butt dyno and a years worth of MPG results driving the same routes all the time. But URD has this:

    http://urdusa.com/popup_image.php?pID=1260518504&image=4

As some have said, it's not much, but it'll help.

I felt modest gains and saw a modest 1MPG gain in mixed driving fuel economy. It is loud at WOT.

I've heard that superchargers are terrible at high altitude. Eat a lot of gas. I'm no expert, just going on a buddy who has one on his Frontier and some other stuff I've read.

Well I guess it depends but I personally haven't seen anything major from a cold sir intake except on diesels where they really allow those engines to breathe.
