I've been researching the definitive answer to this question with conflicting answers. I have a set of 2018 coilovers and want to install them on my 2nd Gen (2012). the color coding is red/green and pinkish/light grey-blue. A general consensus is that red/green = driver's side. If so this would orient the lower coil end to the rear of the coilover which is how the manual states it should be. the issue with what I have is that the tophat is oriented incorrectly. If I spin them 180°, the tophat orientation is correct but now the lower ends of the coils are now in the forward position. If I swap sides, then both the lower coil ends and the tophats are oriented correctly (maybe this is my answer despite what others have done). I'm hoping that this makes some kind of sense....

I might be overthinking this (it's my nature) but I want to do this upgrade once. I want to avoid doing it twice.

I'm going to answer my own question. I contacted a member of TW that had the same year and color coded coilovers on his 2nd gen. He followed the correct lower spring end (towards rear of truck) and dismissed the color coding. He reported that his truck is level (side to side front). I will do the same and use the correct positioning of the coil spring end (lower) as my guide and not the color coding.....

If this set of 3rd Gen coilovers has indeed never been disassembled (and potentially mixed up during reassembly) after it left the factory, then yes I'd say you're safe to go with the lower coil end orientation as your guide for which belongs on the LH and RH side.

Old thread, but did it work out? I have the same dilemma: spring orientation at odds with the color code. Pretty certain they've never been disassembled.
