    Recently bought a 2005 Tacoma Pre-runner TRD-offroad. I am getting this engine code P0722. The car randomly stalls while driving. It feels like the throttle body just closes then will open back up. Ill be holding the throttle at ~20% the whole time and the truck will randomly slow down. Also cruise control is not working. I think its something to do with the speed sensor. But where is the output speed sensor? i got under the truck and cant seem to find it on the transmission. Any help would be greatly apprectiated.

    You can remove the sensor, bring it inside and let it sit for a little bit and measure the resistance on it. At 68F it should have a reading between 560-680 ohms. If a new sensor doesnt fix it and the harness and plug look good, you'll ultimately have to start testing and inspecting the whole harness going to the ECU. FSM says to disconnect the harness from the ECU and to measure resistance between the 2 pins that lead to the sensor. If that comes out okay, then to replace the ECU. In all reality it's probably the sensor. Just make sure the wires around the transmission are undamaged and that theres no corrosion on the connector pins or the pins of the sensor to rule out an electrical issue, especially if you're getting water intrusion into the connector.

    This is the Speed Sensor that I bought from Autozone. This works as input and output? it says input/output on the website.

    Also what is FSM?

    Yeah the sensor is used in either location and has the same part number. Replace the one on the passenger side of the transmission. Drivers side one is the input

    FSM = factory service manual

    Alright so I tested each speed senor. The input and the output as well as the one i bought new from autozone. They are all around 660ohms. I visually inspected the connections to the output speed sensor and it "looks" good. How would I go about testing these connections with the meter?

    I would say put the new one in the output speed location, erase the code and drive to see if it comes back on. When I get home I can get the testing instructions for you. That won’t be for another 8 hours though.

    So I put on the new speed sensor on the output. Then inspecting the engine bay I saw that these 2 grounds were disconnected. I put them on and the truck seems to drive normal for now. No check engine light. Cruise control works. Could this have been the problem?

    So far I drove the truck about 5 miles and everything is working good. Those ground connections made a huge difference on how it drives. Ill report back after I put some more miles on it. Thanks Sep1911!

    Did you by any chance take it in to a shop for anything? Maybe even an oil change? I've noticed a lot of shops have been fucking with peoples cars to cause issues or they write bs repairs just because business has been slow for them

    So I bought the truck from an auction and they did say there was a check engine light on the truck. What's weird is that the truck was at a dealership about a 100 miles ago. It's possible someone at the dealership or auction might have tampered with it. The truck only has 103k miles and it's a 2005. Someone had to have taken them off. No way they just magically come off.
