Cobalt blue metallic, who still has one?

Long time listener, first time caller. A little history: I first saw my truck in February 2010 in my new neighbor's driveway when we moved into our current house. I didn't remember seeing one this color before. I asked my new next door neighbor who knew the truck's owner to tell him I would like to buy it if he ever wanted to sell. Fast forward 9 years and 2 months later the owner called me and offered to sell. He made me a can't pass up deal which I first refused and told him it was too cheap but he said I was the only person who had ever cared about the truck, that he and his wife were ill and they wanted a friend to have it.

The truck was all original down to the all weather Toyota mats and dealer added running boards but absolutely filthy from sitting outside its whole life as far as I know. My neighbors were elderly and were not able to keep up with the maintenance in the last few years, but it was driven pretty infrequently. It only had 67,298 miles the day I bought it in 2019. I began the restoration process which wasn't too bad after cleaning it up. I replaced the dry rotted tires, had the hood and roof resprayed because the paint was down to bare steel on the front of the hood, etc etc. The clearcoat was coming off pretty bad on the fenders and bedsides as well. Unfortunately I was rear ended a couple years ago and had to get a donor bed, tailgate and taillight from another 96 in the junkyard, plus a new reman bumper as Toyota has discontinued them. On the upside the frame is in perfect condition as my neighbor never drove the truck in snow and fame rust is not really a problem here in the South anyway. So while the bed was off I had the frame repainted and I had the steel wheels powder coated. I had the rest of the truck refinished in the original color to match the hood and roof. I think it turned out pretty well.

Are there any others who still have an 8K6 Cobalt blue metallic Tacoma? My wife says it’s purple but I beg to differ, Toyota named it blue so that's what I'm sticking with. Not my favorite color, but to honor my neighbor the plan is to keep it forever. Post a pic of yours

I still have mine, though the paint is pretty sun faded these days. I suppose that means it's been well loved

Probing the pixels pretty much anywhere gives about as much blue as red, so it's a purple. Looks blue to my colorblind ass though

 

I’m colorblind also and it looks blue to me too!

 

Had mine for a little over a year and a half. Some spots need to be repainted and in desperate need of some wax but the color has grown on me a lot since ive had it.
