Sup tw. I haven’t seen a write up or videos about this specific bumper so thought I would make one. This is the extreme clearance front bumper made by coastal off road for 3rd gen tacomas.

Boy did this whole thing drag on.. So I’ll preface by saying they sent me the wrong piece and customer service was a little iffy getting it to me in an appropriate time frame but nonetheless I received the right part. Instructions that they sent to me were a mixture between 2nd and 3rd gen so it was a little confusing but they did the job.

Buyer beware that this bumper required a bit of custom work not included in the directions. Power steering cooler lines needed to be relocated quite far from the original spot. Once I add a winch I will have to figure what I want to do with them bc they probably won’t fit where they are. Maybe they will well see.

This is the original location of it and a pic of where it went. Bumper had to be notched on the left side. Idk maybe there was something I did wrong with this install but I could not think of how/what they planned for ppl to do with the power steering cooler lines. (It will later be mounted in sturdy but that’s the general area of where it is now.) Had to drain the lines to the relocate the cooler. PITA.

Forgot to mention cutting out the low hanging crossmember. It wasn’t that hard used an angle grinder and finished the rest with a hand saw. Next the crossmember got welded in. The instructions shown were for a 2nd gen and the radiator and condenser are in different locations than 3rd. The crossmember was EXTREMELY tight and pushed up against the condenser or radiator forgot which one but it was touching and didnt want to move any further up. So proceeded to weld in the crossmember at a slight angle so that it would fit snugly. Hard to tell in pics but I’ll attach some.

Because the crossmember was welded in at a slight angle the plate that welds to the bumper housing had to also be slightly angled. This didn’t cause any problems building the bumper but maybe if I want to order their high clearance skid plate I will have to modify it slightly. Shouldn’t be that big of a difference. Next was assembly the main frame of the bumper. Relatively easy with the right tools and right angles making sure everything lines up.

Nice write up so far, but damn seams like a lot of work and modifications for a bumper. I hope the end product looks good and functions to your expectations. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your install, keep up the good work!

Had to mount the light bar slightly different since I don’t have a Baja design which I assume is what is made for it. I got it custom cut to have a 30” light bar. If I ever(probably won’t) get one) get the Baja one I’ll just cut it off and re weld it in the proper position. Next the wings I needed an extra hand to help me get them level while I tacked them on so I recommended getting a hand for that part. Doing it by yourself if possible but harder.

Next I took it off and fully welded everything. I ran stitch welds on the inside and fully welded everything on the outside. Gets tedious 100%. Did the same with stitching on the center frame but I ran full welds around the key mounting areas and recovery points. (For info am using a titanium mig 170 connected to a 220). After that put it back on the truck and started grinding which took a long damn time and you start to get real sick of it lol. I even left a few spots not really hit the best but hard to tell unless you’re a bumper inspector. After that hung it in the garage for paint. (Also fyi for the bottom mounts that connect to the crossmember they ask you to tack the nuts on to the crossmember since they will be difficult to access once the front plate is on so make sure you do that. Get zinc hardware they don’t include anything so you have to get your own.)

Probably gonna end up hitting all my armor with bed liner. I’ve seen some folks do that and it looks decent and gives a nice rugged texture. Might make some of the imperfections harder to notice as well. Then let it dry and mounted my light bar. Probably a few details I’m missing here and there but if any questions lmk. Looks half decent just need to get a winch and pod lights.

I’d give it about 5 full working days to dial it in including the paint. I’m not that experienced and I did it within those days. Realistically took about 3 full working days but just don’t rush the grinding and painting and it will turn out good.

Looks like a solid bumper. I put coastal bumper on my 4runner several years ago. Well, the 2nd one anyway. The first one disappeared like a fart in the breeze after clearing customs. Not coastals fault so nothing to hold against them. Their instructions were good.

I was looking at this same bumper, but I'm not sure I want to chop and replace my front crossmember on a brand new truck. Thanks for the detailed pics- look forward to updates about how you relocated the steering cooler.
