Clutch pedal not returning all the way.

    Fellas,

    I’m having an issue where my clutch pedal isn’t returning all the way and I have to retract it back fully with my foot. The measurement that doesn’t get fully retracted is about 1”. The trans isn’t having any issues engaging or disengaging. No fluid is leaking from the master or slave… can this be a clutch return spring issue?

    You more than likely need to adjust the arm that connects the pedal to the master cylinder (that’s what fixed it for me, had the same problem). You can rotate it to push the pedal closer or away from the front of the vehicle. These springs are pretty robust and unlikely to fail unless they have worn completely through the pedal assembly.

    This is a known issue with the clutch pedal design. The clutch pedal torsion spring presses on a plastic U-bushing, which breaks and causes a metal-on-metal wear point. If the bushing isn't replaced, the spring wears a groove into the clutch pedal assembly and you get that inability to return fully without help.

    There is an easy modification to permanently solve this issue - remove the torsion spring and replace it with a linear clutch return spring.

    27+ years of livin' Gen1 TacoLife...
    does this happen in all of the gears or just in reverse such as mine did a number of years ago now

    It happens randomly, gears 1-5 I never know when it’s going to happen… some days it’s frequently or their days it hardly does it.

    No, the pedal free play can still be adjusted the same way using the master cylinder.

    Mine was the clutch master cylinder itself. Not sure if you ever replaced mine went out around 150k. Also it is a 2002 v6. I use to hold the clutch in most of the time at stop lights. I kind of weened myself off that now.

    Clock Volt meter/LSPV Delete/Hyundai 16’s/FP gauge/after 9months of wrenching ZERO oil leaks
    Pretty much all older manufacturers clutch pedals can be adjusted with a lot of contorting of your body
    Hell, that’s how I got rid of my annoying pilot bearing sound when I was poor and in college

    but I’m going with bad clutch MC

    when I was heavy AutoX guy, after 3rd run out of 4, my c pedal started dropping….consistently….always at the end of the event
    I could get car in gear and on the 1hr freeway ride home the pedal would return to normal. Has to be a heat thing right?

    So I was totaling some $75k Audi at a storage lot(the one with a carbon fiber section on B pillar)
    There was a flexible Velcro’d OEM heat shield wrap around the clutch MC. Looked like an expensive sock.
    Let’s just say, haven’t had clutch MC heat issue since
