About to do a clutch job on my '96 Tacoma 5 lug. 2rz-fe motor. Wondering if anyone knows the correct torque settings for the flywheel bolts? FSM says 65 ft lbs, but I have heard these are torque to yield??? Something like 19 ft lbs and then 90 degrees after that. Or is that just for the 3rz?

Also, anything else I should know before I tear into this? Things to check...etc?

    Thanks!

You are talking Fly Wheel not Flex Plate??

    4cylinder is 19 foot pounds plus 90Degrees .

Which sounds like a royal pain Rotate the engine so every swing is the same

I might want to use new bolts but that is just me

Yes...flywheel is for standard transmission and used with a clutch. Flex plate is for auto.

I know that's what the setting is for on the 3rz, but I'm curious about the 2rz torque settings. In the book it says 65 ft lbs, but I'm wondering if I'm missing something here?? Would anyone be so kind as to check in their FSM or Chilton's for me?

Some people tend to use fly wheel for both

    I should have been clearer

The 2RZ is 65 foot pounds the 3RZ calls for the 19 foot pounds plus 90 degrees this is from the 2000 Tacoma FSM

    Understood. No worries.

Ok, well I guess 65ft lbs is what I'll go with. Just wanted to make sure I had it right for such a critical piece. I know the bolts are the same for both engines....at least it says so on the package I got from LCE. I guess they are both torque to yield and non reuasable, just with different torque settings?? Weird.

Looking at my 95 FSM, the 2RZ calls for 65 ft. lb. and 10 new bolts and the 3RZ calls for 19 ft. lb. and 10 new bolts. I agree, don't make any sense for such a light torque on the 3RZ and it doesn't say anything about additional 1/4 turn which would make more sense then to me.

Well, if I'd turn to the next page it does say to now mark the fly wheel and then turn the bolts an additional 1/4 turn on the 3RZ.
