Hello there. I have a v6, 5sp 1998 4x4 that has a clutch problem. When I step on the clutch pedal, I would have to pull it back with my foot and then it would engage halfway down. Last year, it got to the point where it would not allow me to shift. I bled the slave cylinder and it went back to shifting where the pedal traveled halfway before engagement (with occasionally having to pull it back with my foot).
Now, it went straight to the floor with no shifting ability, so I bled it again, but it did not work. Reservoir is full of fluid. No noticeable leaks.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Idk if it's the same on a first gen but my master went out behind the pedal next to the floor board a few weeks back. Same symptom as above. But mine took a shit. No bringing it back.
The old 1 wasplastic, the new one is metal

    Good luck!

Take a look at the mechanism and mounting points of clutch and spring under dash. Support brackets or spring mount may be loose/broken and the rod fork is known to break as well. The fork on transmission can bend, crack and break so look at it while pushing clutch.47162A11-FB3F-45E0-9565-298B3252F351.jpg

It’s either a bad slave cylinder or a bad master cylinder. I’d start with the cheaper part first.

Well, I replaced the Slave to no avail-the pedal still goes to the floor. I did notice that some sort of plastic ring that goes around the rod that connects to the pedal is broken and that mechanism doesn't seem sound. I've attached a couple of pictures for reference. Would I replace that silver thingy?
    Thanks.

I wasn't able to find a replacement adjustable fork without buying the Master cylinder it comes with so I welded up my own and used the OE rod and nuts.
I have no idea why that plastic design was used but it fails.

Internal failure in the Master Cylinder anything down stream will drain the reservoir .

If the clutch release fork breaks most times the slave cylinder comes apart .

My clutch fork broke in half on my way to work one day. Clutch has no resistance and would fall to the floor. There is a boot that you can peel back to inspect the portion that holds the throwout bearing.

Not true. The external seal can shit the bed, and leak fluid all over your foot. OR the internal plunger seal can shit the bed- resulting in no fluid loss but no pressure at the slave cylinder. It CAN also be intermittent: sometimes as the internal seals break down a piece of rubber will get caught in the lip of the seal, and get uncaught when you freak out and jam your foot on the clutch pedal 100 times.

Slave cylinder failure = leak, or seized
Clutch cylinder failure = maybe leak, maybe not, but *always* poor forcing of the slave cylinder.
