    Hey experts,

New Taco SR5 owner and want to invest in either slider or pop out windows in both shell and cab to allow for a quick getaway, if needed.
(yeah as a solo female camper, we have to think about these things.....)

Might you all be able to help with how to go about reaching this goal?
    Thanks much for
    assistance!

Do you already have the camper shell? My old leer window had a sliding window but also could be complete removed. The window of the Tacoma though it not very big. Too bad it didn’t have a window like tundras that went up and down.

A rtt i never use and 30 light bars
1st gen? I have a hi roof shell with windoors all around, the one to the cab folds downbut the window that slides on my rear window I can fit but Ive never gone thru it cus ita pita but i can like you said if my life is in danger. For a shell I would recommend the ARE commercial cap the tallest one 48” with windoors all around and the rear barn doors makes it really helpful getting in and out.

lol nvm read its 3rd gen, hipefully you have a 6foot bed, full time living i would spring for a 4wheel camper

the tacoma 3rd gen rear windows are so small, youd have to be really thin to fit

Personally I don’t think I have seen anyone swap out the rear window of the truck. I’d say just get your conceal carry (if you don’t have it) and call it a day

Most new camper shells come with the option of a sliding front window that also folds down completely (so you can clean between the cab and the shell). But to use it as an escape, you’d still need to be able to fit through the sliding window hole on the truck… which I know isn’t happening for me. I got the keyless entry option on my Snugtop shell, so you could at least lock yourself in the back with the key fob.

Nothing beats an equalizer, would be cheaper too. Quick search and I found "Tacoma oem rear window". Probably could have a glass shop install but I suspect it'd be pricey

Really wish the tundra style rear window were an option on the tacoma, that'd be an option I'd definitely throw some monies at.

You'd for sure need a larger section to crawl through ... Maybe call glass shops and talk to them about a replacement glass with a larger slide?

But otherwise, the Tundra rear window would be great on a Tacoma! I have a 4Runner and it's great having that rear sliding glass.

And safe travels to you OP.

You're better off investing in a dog and a gun. I have dispersed camped hundreds of times and a would be attacker has the element of suprise if they wish you harm especially if you're already asleep. There's no way you'll be able to crawl in your cab, start the truck and drive away unless they're completely aloof. Amazon has motion sensor camping lights as well but I imagine they have a lot of false alarms or psuedo useless. Dogs will sense prey human or otherwise but like I said it will probably be faster for you to jump out the back and run into your cab than crawl thru it especially if you have a double cab

A dog and gun would be better but she may live in an area where you're not allowed to have a dog.

    A bunch..and no build thread!
    +1 for a dog and a gun.

Even better if you can find a dog that already knows how to use a gun.

When I was younger with small kids my wife and kids would often move between the cab and shell on full size trucks while I was driving. I could fit, but it was close. This was before the days of mandatory seatbelts and when it was common for people to ride in the back of a truck. Not saying it was smart, but that is just how we rolled back in the day.

    Welcome!
There's definitely better methods than going through the pain of adding an OE slider, only to realize a small child would have a tough time sliding through.

Probably better off selling the Taco, and buying a van.

Anyone fired a gun from the inside of a camper shell? I want to know how loud it gets.

When used together, "leer" & "window" do have an ominous ring.
