Hi. New member here. I've looked through previous posts and haven't found this question being asked or answered. I'm hoping someone here knows how to do this, but I'm not optimistic it's opssible.

My automatic climate control works pretty darned well. Better than most vehicles I've been in. I don't really care for the automatic settings in general, as I tend to get cool air longer than I want, or heat longer than I want, even when it's set on exactly the same temperature year-round. That's easy enough to tweak, though.

My real problem is that "auto" will always put heat on my feet only with a little bleeding in through the outboard dash vents. My hands are always cold. Always. Can I customize the auto settings to provide heat to my feet and face (bottom and dash vents) by default? I like the A/C to be dash vents only, so it's a very specific thing I'm looking to do. Is there any access to the default settings, or do I have to continue cycling through the mode switch to get the distribution I want?

    Thanks a ton!
    David

Unfortunately it is not something we can just configure.

There are some climate options you can only set through techstream (and not the headunit). but I can’t remember if what you are after is one of those settings. So you may want to search techstream & climate control just to make sure.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I figured there wasn't a way, but thought I'd throw a hail Mary here. I'll check out techstream, just to rule out the possibility. Someday, designers will allow users to do some custom configurations of things like this. It would be oh-so-easy for the developers to allow.

So after you push the auto button use your selector to select what you want . For example I set my auto climate to feet and defrost . During the summer I select auto climate and select feet and vents . Let me know how it works out for you . I'm for sure it works I've owned my Tacoma for almost six years .

Another note what ever setting I have selected with auto climate engaged and with what setting I have chosen , when I shut my truck off it stays that way when I turn it on. Example I set auto climate to defrost and floor heat, with temp set at 75 for the mornings . I love it cause once it warms up to my temp settings the fan will slow down and I'm comfy . If I do get to warm I adjust to 72 or 71°F . That's my comfort zone

I hope that this might help unless I'm not understanding you correctly

If I could customize the hvac I would remove the default “air recirculation” every time the A/C is switched on. Yeah, I realize it’s the most efficient way to get to the desired temp bit I prefer outside most of the time.

I do appreciate everyone's thoughts and help. Billy, yes, I do realize that the air distribution setting I choose will stay there even after stopping and starting the truck. That is superior to our Honda and Kia vehicles, which reset with the engine restart. I love that it does that, since during each season I have exactly one setting I prefer (feet and face for heat, face only for cool). My wish for improvement comes mostly from the desire to be able to change what "auto" means during the heat and cooling seasons. If I could change it once a year, I'd be happier. Plus, if I've moved off my (normally) preferred distribution to defog or other, hitting auto to allow the fan and temp to be automated also makes me follow up that selection with a few touches of the distribution button to get back to where I want to be. All in all, I'm griping about a pretty high class problem here. I love the truck and just about everything else about it (except the mpg!).

TK and Wire, thanks for your support. I wasn't even going to mention the recirc deal. I'd like to have that only kick on in extreme temps or manually. Any idea of how we could somehow sign up for one of their focus groups and press for this change in future models? :)

Re: "Recirc" mode: The 2012 Buick I had was equipped with automatic climate control and on a hot day when it had been sitting out in the parking lot in the sun, if the system was set to full auto , would automatically start the system in "recirc" mode and then switch over to outside air after a few minutes once the inside temp approached the set temp. Turning the temp dial to full cold, would also force it into recirc mode. You could also manually select any of the air outlet settings and any fan speed. These manual actions would of course turn off the "auto" lamp, as technically the only thing that was being controlled automatically now would be the set temperature. It also had a sunlight sensor on the dash. In some conditions, like a sunny day in the fall, it could send both warm air to the foot outlets to keep your feet warm, and cool air to the dash vents at mid level at the same time.
