I’ve recently just begun hearing a clicking sound during a downshift. Sounds like it’s coming from the middle/rear of the truck. Went underneath, inspected u joints, nothing obvious or apparent going on with them. Unfortunately it’s a 19 and they don’t have grease zerks. Gave the shaft a shake, seems solid enough. Jacked up rear end, shook both rear tires, not seeing or feeling anything. Anyone else experience anything similar? Been going on for about 3-4 weeks now .

It’s not loud enough to be picked up by a camera or I’d share the noise with yall. Only notice it with window down going lower speeds.

Is it when you're slowing down to a stop? My truck sounded like it was popping out of a bind or something like that. Some of the tunes you can get will help with it if it's the same thing I'm talking about, but I don't know if they have tunes for the 2.7L.

Yes, it happens when slowing down. 1 click, that’s it. No vibes, nothing else other than the one click.

I wouldn't worry about it. I was worried maybe I had low trans fluid, but I checked that, still did it. It even still did it on the first tune I tried, but the valley runner tune I'm running now specifically attempts to remedy the problem, and I haven't had it come back since. You may see if the dealership has a newer factory tune, but I doubt you'll get much help!

It’s likely your driveshafts slip joint slightly binding caused by slight axle movements when braking/decelerating combined with downshifting. It’s a common issue that Toyota deemed normal for these trucks. It is not causing any damage but can be annoying.

You know that’s what I thought it was, but it’s just kinda odd that it started happening about 3 weeks ago or so. I could understand if it happened since day 1 , I’d shrug it off. But I’ve got 30k miles on it and it just started

Could it be the brake booster making the noise. If its just one click. ... or is constant/repetitive?

1 click during the right conditions.

There's a thread somewhere where someone greased their driveshaft slip joint. I would expect that to cause a clunk, but maybe it could cause a click? It's easy enough to do, but the hardest part is finding replacement clamps for the boot.
