Hey fam! So last night I decided to remove the vinyl rock chip Guards and I couldn’t be happier! The truck looks so much cleaner without the old ones that were so dirty around the edges! Took me about an hour per side using a heat gun and squeegee to get off the first layer and then I used goo-gone to get off the rest of the adhesive, I had to do like 4 different rounds of goo-gone! Here are some pics! Before and after

I did the same thing, but I went a little farther and took the turd sticker off. I mean TRD sticker. And all the emblems.

FWIW, I went with this after doing a lot of hemming and hawing over thickness/square footage/price - 3M 8mil clear vinyl w/ grid lines. My use case was to wrap some new headlights, re-apply the chip guards to my quarterpanels, and have a bit left over for some other projects.

I have a clear guard on hood and after years, it now looks horrible. A heat gun made it easier to take off?? Must try that, and a gallon of Goo Gone. No negative effects to clear coat with Goo Gone?

Far away not bad. Up close, not good...

Your truck is single stage, no clear coat on that paint. I'd test a spot first; some chemicals react pretty bad to single stage. Mineral spirits is a safe bet for most adhesives. A heat gun is a must for removing that, but not too hot.

Where do you suggest getting the pattern to replace the rock guards with new adhesive

Didn’t realize that was an option. Thought maybe there was a pattern to use an people were cutting their own.
Thanks for the link above as well. Should be the same for. 2010

Did you notice any ghosting or shadowing from the decals or emblems? I'd like to do this to mine but a little leery (Pyrite Mica).

Those are your part numbers if you want to go factory again.

I just removed my original rock guards as well, although it took me longer than an hour per side. It was painfully slow on removing it. I tried heat then used Goo Gone in many, many applications to get everything off, plus polishing compound to remove things the Goo Gone couldn't.

FWIW, it seems like the Turtle Wax Label and Sticker Remover works well, and I'm sure there are other products that work better than Goo Gone. I just don't have much options locally so I didn't get it.

After going through this, I wish I had removed it earlier and reapplied the factory guard.

Search for flare protector or stone guard on a parts website. Below are the p/n's for the factory vinyl guards for a 2012 Access Cab. Be sure and double check.

They key is to keep your truck washed, and use a tooth brush GENTLY clean around the guard to get rid of any built up dirt,my 2006 guards looked brand new still when I sold the truck a few years back..

No money, all went to truck...
Mine are all cracked and nasty looking. I think it's time I remove them too.

FWIW: I spoke to Toyota tech about them about a year after I bought my truck. There was a little bubbling going on. He said that they would be happy to change them under warranty but he recommended not changing it because a machine puts it on in the factory and it's really hard to properly put them on by hand.
