I put this in the 2nd Gen forum, but some suggested I might get better replies in the Detail forum.

I bought my 2007 tacoma 4 years ago. It has been great, but just within the last 6 months, it looks like the clear coating over the paint is starting to peel. I have tried to load photos. Many suggested the failed clear coating, so should I look at having a clear coat reapplied and will that help? Thanks for any suggestions as the rest of the truck is in awesome condition.

This is a common problem on these trucks, including my own.

I had my roof and hood repainted, and now i wax my truck every few weeks religiously to prevent this from happening again

Many shops won’t respray clear coat. You might be able to do yourself, but best bet it waiting for it to get worse and have the the areas repainted. That’s my plan anyway, my clear coat is also coming off.

This guy has other helpful videos regarding clear coat. It's not a perfect fix, but it will button up your current problem, and it will look a lot better.

Or you could do what I did, and plastidip it :p

Ive also seen others on here just plastidip the hood and roof to keep it from getting worse. Not sure if thats your style though, i know its not mine. Another option nonetheless

Wow, wish i had the time to do that. Mines lucky to get through the auto car wash once a month. No brushes though! lol  I try to get in 1 wax a year, but hard living in the country, with only gravel drive.

Yeah trust me, i feel your pain with living in the country on a dirt road.. and my truck is dark green so its a total pita to keep clean. Ive found that if i wash and wax it, and then go by a diy car wash every few days to rinse the dust off, i can keep it clean for several weeks at a time. We also have extremely hard water where im at, so it makes the problem even worse when trying to wash it

MGM seems to hide the dust and dirt really well or maybe i am just used to it.

Feel ya on the water too. I had to install a water softener not long after moving onto my 20 acres. In a short time, it was destroying my faucets:censored:

    sorry for :threadjacked:
