Completely bummed to see the clear coat bubbling on my Homertaco Raptor grille. I checked with Homer and it sounds like I was unlucky on the clear coat. No one else has reported an issue to him. The paint is probably 4 years old (best I can remember). I am pondering what I want to do with it (no plastidip and linex are not an option!). I may have the clear redone or I may go back to stock and sell it. Any DIY'ers out there have any suggestions?

Dang it man, that's a bummer.

A decent body shop should be able to return it to good as new.

I still have the stock grille but after having this one on the truck for so long I don't want to go back. Plus it still looks better than stock with the bubbles.

Sorry for that dude. To clear the bubbles in the overcoat, you HAVE to scrap the clear coat off and re-coat it. There is no other way I am afraid

Well you know more than me detailing wise, I'm assuming you have attempted to polish it to determine if its external.

Want to know if you try anything and it works. I have etching in my bumper I'd like to fix but I think a repaint is only option. Let us know if anything proves helpfu

If it doesn't I vote repaint the mod grille. You are right, its better than stock.

It's external. You can literally push on the bubble.

I had one of the front bumper elements which started to do that. Went to a dealer, they ordered new element, painted it and installed under the Toyota warranty at no cost to me.

Clear coat should last more then 4 years, otherwise it is just junk.

Keep in mind this is an aftermarket part. I agree the clear coat should last longer. But that is the chance you take.

Any chance the bird hit caused the damage?

If its bubbling its a poor paint job. I'd look into having it repainted.

if it was mine I would probably leave it like that for a while till it got really noticeable but in the end it does look like it will need to be repainted.
