next month I plan to replace my valve covers gaskets. While I'm in there I want to check out and clean my injectors. How would I go about cleaning the injectors off the engine?

Can they get weak or are they more of a completely fail kind of item?

I think the cheapest method is to send them to injectordoctor or something and have them flow tested/cleaned etc. Someone else will probably have a link because I obvious don't.

For the gaskets make sure you have some silicon rtv, there are a few places you need extra sealer

Dang. I was hoping it was something I could do at home.

Where does the rtv go? I figured I'd just need some o rings. Thanks for any advice

There are 2 semi-circular aluminum caps and 2 circular plugs per head. You need a small bead in the seams of all of them.

There are videos online for injector cleaning but you can't flow test them. I've seen guys wire the injectors to a 12v battery to open them and spray carb cleaner through.

Are you doing cam seals as well?

I checked with my local carb rebuilder and they want $50 per injector to check, clean, bebuild and flow. I asked him how much for new injectors and he said anywhere from $35 to $65. I found new injectors for $51. I thanked him for his honesty.

I had mine cleaned, $25 per injector, at Mr. Injector in Idaho. Money well spent!

Idaho and So Cal worlds apart... you are not a criminal in Idaho if you have a gun or an opinion.

Would those be the same cam seals that are behind the cam sprockets on the front of the engine? Or the half moon caps? I replaced cam seals when I did my t-belt 30K miles ago.

I do plan on doing the half moons though. Also new grommets for the valve cover bolts as well as spark plug seals and pct grommet.

Looks like I might be better off pricing injectors.

get the FIPG... toyotas Form in place Gasket sealant. Very good stuff and worth the cost. They recommend that you let it "skin over" before you tighten things up, a few minutes is all it takes.

Over the years and various Celica and Corollas I have found "GB remanufactured" injectors a good value, they are available in sets, on an exchange basis Look in E-Bay for the best prices. several vendors carry them
You will be impressed how much this perks up Toyota.

Thank yourself for not having common rail diesel in it. Injector price would go up seven times easy.
