Cleaning matte trd wheel

Long story short my caliper seized a few months ago. took me a little bit to fix but i finally did. Now i’m left with all this shit from the pads being metal to metal blowing all over the wheel… What’s the best way to get it off?
I’m no detail pro but down for suggestions! I have some chemical guys iron decon coming today which i’m to try and use but have no clue if it’ll work

 

Armorall foaming tire cleaner works shockingly well for pulling dirt out.
Will make those tires nice and black again, too.
I spray that sh*t all over in my wheel wells.

 

Sorry that I’m not going to be much help. I’m having the same problem, same wheels and all. I can tell you that once you get them clean it would be in your interest to thoroughly ceramic coat them with a matte wheel option, they’re out there, do some research and get what works for your budget. The problem is that these matte wheels have no protective coating, not even a clear coat.
I plan to thoroughly clean mine and then ceramic coat them in the near future. Probably once a year. If there’s pitting it’s not going to come out, best you can do is get them as clean as possible and then coat them. They won’t look perfect, but they’ll look a hell of a lot better and will carry a nice satin finish as opposed to matte for as long as you maintain the ceramic coating and they will be much easier to clean as dirt and break dust won’t cling to the wheel like dried leaves do when you drop a microfiber towel.

 

Ceramic will break down because of the heat from the brakes and the wheel cleaner. Best to use a good quality wheel cleaner and follow up monthly with a nice quality spray wax. Ceramic is expensive and can be used but I found a commercial grade spray wax keeps mine looking new. Been a detailer for 38 years, I know what works!

 

Cleaned with chemical guys iron decon and that did nothing.

Chemical Guys products are not that great. They do a great job in marketing and the products work great on new cars for maintaining but thats about it. You need an acid base wheel cleaner followed by a nice micro buffing polish. You wheels are somewhat neglected looking, no offense but they need some love!

 

lol they were super dirty in that pic… not freshly cleaned.. Not neglected. My buddy cleaned same wheels on his 4 runner and used some crap and ruined the finish on em and doesn’t even clean em anymore. look a fully different color black haha.

So where’s your recommendation on product i should use to get rid of this crap?

 

I use commercial products. Not open for general use.

Clean it with an acid base wheel and then polish with some good quality 3m polish then wax them. Try a micro buffer.

 

3D BDX is what you seek.

Have those wheels on the wife’s 4Runner. I use IronX for brake dust then coat with Carpro Dlux. It will add some depth to the color without shine.

 

Just got a set of these wheels - will be sitting around for a bit while waiting for the tires. I'd like to put some kind of protectant on them right out of the box. Would this do the trick?

 

Yes, that is exactly what I did with ours.

 

Wash them a few times and all that protective coating will wash off when using wheel cleaner. I use a good quality detail spray with some ceramic, the spray and wife off as opposed to the real deal ceramic that's expensive. Reason is I have used it before and found after cleaning the wheels on my vehicles the ceramic lost its hydroponics over a few washes which I think is normal.

Better off with something like Dlux. It’s not terrible for the price and will last longer than a few washes.

 

I tried some of the best, the wheel cleaner will break the ceramic down over time.

 

You shouldn’t need a harsh wheel cleaner every time. I only use IronX when there is brake dust build up. Other than that it’s the same soap as for the paint.
