I have a 2009 TRD 4x4 with the 4.0 engine. Bought it new and have had all the maintenance done per the manufacture maintenance schedule. It has 95000 miles. I’ve never cleaned the maf. It runs great, should I clean it? Or not mess with it “if it ain’t broke”?

I would, especially if you have a K&N or other high flow air filter. Just make sure you use MAF sensor cleaner, not brake clean or anything else that will leave a residue.

I recall someone mentioned not to touch the sensor with the spray can’s straw as the sensor is fairly fragile.

Cleaning the MAF at every oil change or when you change the Air filter is recommended

Cleaning the MAF restores lost power and increases mpg

It is sensitive and fragile, I would discourage cleaning it more than once a year. I just clean them during the spark plugs which is plenty frequent.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
I clean my MAF at every oil change. I have done so for 14 years.

I have also run a K&N for those 14 years.

290,000 miles on the truck (230k of those miles are mine with a K&N) zero problems.

Never done it but it looks pretty easy to do. Unplug it, remove 2 screws, pull the maf out, spray it with spray maf cleaner. Let it dry thoroughly and then reinstall. Right?

No need to unplug the harness from the MAF

It's a lot easier to clean if you remove the MAF from the vehicle. Lay it on a clean rag and spray the 2 different areas with the sensor wiring(my term) from different angles.
Use the CRC MAF cleaner unless you know of another. Let it air dry for awhile once you are done.

I cleaned my MAF sensor and throttle body at 75,000 miles and was shocked how dirty both were. As others have said if you run a K&N I highly recommend it as it is not hard to do at all.

I just brought my truck in today for some service including changing the serpentine belt. Since it was there I asked them to clean the maf. They did and said no charge for it. Love the garage I take my truck to.

I can easily spray the MAF and clean it thoroughly with the harness plugged in . I've talked to a few auto techs and they do the same as some shops won't allow the techs to unplug the harness unless changing the MAF out

I place a towel over the area of the air box or in my situation the CAI . The harness on my 2.7 is long enough to place it on the towel and clean it
