I want to modify my shifter to look more classic. Not sure where to start or what to order, anything helps.

Well... there is the Core shifter option or the URD shifter option. I took the URD option... the Core wasn't available at the time...
    20200311_162624.jpg

This is the factory shifter with the URD short shifter and a TRD shift ball.

    Or the Core : https://core-shifters.com/products/...tick-for-toyota-tacoma-2016-2019-v6-4x4-rc62f

There is also a great thread called Show me your knob here if you search it up. Lots of peoples knobs to gaze upon!

Thanks for the reply for the boot I'm looking to see if I can incorporate the rubber boot like this.

The plastic base of the stock boot is easy to remove. Just lift up on it and it will unclip. Then remove the shifter knob and the boot will come off. I can't say that I have looked at how the boot is attached to the trim piece. There should be some way to adapt that style boot to it.

Not sure anyone has been able to get this to work due to the awkward shaping of the console piece/trim itself.
Check that Show Me Your Knob thread mentioned earlier as there was discussion of adapting the old school rubber boot, because there is definitely interest, but no adaptations as of yet - and there may never be.

I don’t have a picture right now but I have no complaints about the shift knob I got from them. It was one of the first mods I did when I bought my 19 brand new and I never had any issues.

    this and that...
when you take the stock boot off itll expose the rubber boot underneath. it doesnt look exactly like that but similar. i believe its used to cut down on transmission and road noise. i forget exactly, but when i installed my core short shifter i think i left out that boot cause i didnt like the look too much. now i have an audible mechanical sound from the transmission. i dont mind it much cause i like the sound tbh and its pretty subtle where you only hear it when the stereo is off.

Does that knob have some good weight to it? Similar to the stock one?

Classic Toyota like radclerk1's picture? The knob from a 6MT Corolla is a close modern version.

My first Toyota truck had this exact interior. If there isn't a modern remake of the 80s style Toyota shift knobs already, there should be! They were really nice.

There's a short throw shifter available for the Frontier that accommodates a Hurst shift lever, theres dozens of styles to choose from, Definitely a vintage look.

Okay, thank you for letting me know. I have a small TRD one, I like how it feels, but it has almost no weight to it.

I love what you did with the shift boot there, how did you get it like that? I recently upgraded to a 3rd gen and I have the TRD shift on mine too but there's this stupid fake chrome plastic thing that clacks on the lever every time I shift.

Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks man!

When you remove the shifter boot, turn it inside out. The chrome ring is zip tied to the underside of the boot. I snipped the zip tie and removed the ring. Then, I zip tied the top of the boot to the shaft before I reinstalled the base.

Epco makes a weighted knob. Maybe slightly heavier than stock20230424_184121.jpg
