Well it was bound to happen , im glad it has finally come , Toyota Has been hit with class action lawsuit in regards to the current Transmission issues . This Article was in “Carscoops”. Went on saying Toyota knowingly replaced defective transmissions with defective parts, they just took current parts on hand and replaced , the parts were same ones that caused the issues…. Toyota has really screwed the pooch here , im sure this will Delay new trucks coming to market , this cost cutting sloppy stuff isnt like toyota , The good thing that can come out of this is that its all in open, not tricky TSB, Notices ,with specific vin#,s. Lets hope they make it right

I can't recall if this 8spd was in other applications prior or if it was all new for the 4G?

I was also wondering why Toyota didn't go with the 10spd from the Tundra, those seem to be issue free for the most part. Maybe the 8spd takes up less room, and less speeds is a better combo for the 2.4t.

My guess is Toyota needs or wants to use the 8spd or a close variant globally.

Yes this is a better scenario for customers who will need transmissions replaced.

    Far to much money spent.
I hope this forces a recall so those of us in the affected vin's can get a replacement before we are stuck somewhere.

This is sad and then people will complain when prices go up. Everyone looking for a free dollar. Toyota came out quickly and swiftly to address this issue head on. Sad people always have to resort to lawsuits.

The ‘22 Tundra came out with a huge price hike, and reports of bad motors surfaced. We saw a lot of hand-wringing on forums, then a recall. Even today it’s unclear if that recall adequately covers enough build dates, or whether hybrids are affected. And after Toyota spends money replacing those engines, who do we think the replacement costs will get passed to? Yep, you guessed it.

Now, the ‘24 Tacoma comes out, initially delayed by QC issues, with a huge price hike, and…we already see complaints of eight-speed shenanigans.

I drink Toyota kool-aid daily, but given recent history, would give the new Tacoma owners 100% benefit of the doubt…

'Although he filed the class action for more than $5 million and claims the transmission problem exposes him to "an increased risk of severe injury or death," he doesn't allege he had a dealership or any mechanic inspect the Tacoma.

The plaintiff argues Toyota knew in 2016 the 2024 Tacoma transmissions were defective but "actively concealed and continues to conceal the true nature and extent" of the transmission problems.'

    It's a bogus suit.

The lawsuit is due to toyotas plan to only repair or replace issues as they happen. That means no recall but just wait until the tranny locks up or breaks. The problem with this plan is that it potentially places customers in danger if their tranny locks up going 70mph. Its a safey hazard to to just wait and address issues later after they break. Thats what the real issue is with the toyota plan.

It'll probably be similar to the frame rust class-action lawsuit, where the plaintiff's scumbag lawyers pocket a few million from Toyota. While the vehicle owners just get an expansion of the pre-existing Toyota service bulletin.

I agree if it gets that far. Part of the filing alleges that Toyota was aware of the problem with this transmission in 2016. They have quite the imagination.

Interesting claim considering that the AE 80E/F doesn't seem to even exist until 2023 and nobody's complaining about the related Tx-80xx, Ax 80E/F, Ux 80E/F, or AW F8 Fxx transmissions that go back as far as 2006. There's been plenty of time for them to have developed ongoing problems if they were going to.

I mean I dont know seems kinda like Abdul Syed is being kind of a karen. Toyota got complaints on the issue, researched it and then issued a TSB.

alas looks like this is all in CA so we shall see what happens.
