Chip your car

Anyone familiar with "chip your car"? Says it adds 60 hp and 5mpg. Little pricey but the consumer reviews that I've found looked promising. Would love to get rid of the lag in this thing. Thanks!

Long story short, if it sounds too good to be true, it is too good to be true.

 

Are you sure? Maybe Toyota was just too cheap to spend the extra $200 to get the mpg increased by 25%

 

I chipped my car.








A little bit of touchup paint and a light buffing fixed it though.



Seriously, the Toyota ECUs don't like to be tampered with. Anything short of a complete reflash with a new tune profile won't do diddly squat except part you from your money.

 

Not sure how some chip that has this type of coverage, can do anything at all....



The range of vehicles, systems, emissions etc is too variable to make these a smart purchase for even one of this options...

 

If you believe that, I have some ocean front property that I'd love to sell you. It's in Arizona. George Strait once owned it.

 

And if he prefers to be a Florida owner, I have this available.




@Scott 2021 SR5 you do realize that many reviews of products are offered by friends, family and fake accounts, correct?

What you want is a 'tune'. Search on here and you'll find the solution to your lag.

Member @tonered I'm sure will be glad to help get you pointed in the right direction if you'll offer up the location (city/state) where you live.

 

Maybe a little more subtle approach and they would have got me hooked line and sinker. Thanks for the advice guys and gals! Even the smart @$$ ones. Lol

My previous 2019 4cyl I felt a bit of a difference using ect passing someone on the interstate. My 6cyl not so much.it wants to delay a half second

 

60hp is just not there unless you go with a supercharger.

the big question you should be asking is "how does it increase power(which inherently uses more gas-- you can't add power without burning more energy somewhere within the system), while also increasing mpg?

the fuel shark 'did' the same thing, and that was just a fancy light that plugged into the cigarette lighter port.

 

I have oceanfront property in Colorado I need to unload. $50 an acre. First 5K suckers will get it.

 

I don't allow chips in my truck. No drinks either. No food until the warranty has expired.

 

Sounds like one of those chips that also comes from Zimbabwe with a hundred thousand dollars, and all you have to do is wire $10k back to em and keep the rest!

 

Anyone remember the plastic fan that was to be installed in the air cleaner to give more horsepower and better mpg back in the ‘70’s? J C Whitney sold them for $10 I think.

Probably sold thousands.

oh yeah! I am sure the wooooosshhhh alone was worth the price of admission.
Then there was the magnetic doodad that you would put over or around your fuel line, it was supposed to increase mileage.

 

I had forgotten about that!…. And I seem to remember they sold mothballs to put in your gas tank to increase mpg

 

FI engines can get a good HP and torque boost from being "chipped". Only buy from a reputable well know provider, not something to mess around with. Non-FI engines will get little to nothing, more that latter than the former.
