Just in case anyone was curious fitment isn’t perfect but damn good. Got a steal on a topper off a Chevy Colorado and gave it a try. Not bad for a budget topper

What year Colorado did it come off of? I see a lot more of them for sale for Colorados/Canyons and way cheaper. If I see one with windoors it may be worth it to swap mine out for one.

It came off the 2015-22 generation Colorado. Yeah the Tacoma topper market is definitely priced a lot higher in the used market compared to the Colorado and canyons.

What did you use to recolor? Is that rubberized black underbody spray?

I’m thinking of doing the same- Picked up a $100 04 Tundra Topper for my 23 Tacoma- fairly close fit.

Sorry man. It literally looks like you did exactly what you did, and you cheaped out.
Glad you like it but to most who know anything, they are gonna see it and go "damn, that dude cheaped out."
If you can afford a Tacoma, afford the gas, you can afford to buy a topper that fits. Not almost fits.
My opinion, which is why you posted, to get opinions.

I just used a duplicolor matte black. Just took my time with prep and made sure to get even coats on it. Came out pretty good.

I don’t give a shit about others opinions lol. I posted to let others know there’s other options out there than to spend 2k on a topper that’s only gonna be used part time. Rather spend $100 bucks and save the rest on things that matter while still utilizing my needs of a topper at a low cost point.

So you posted a pic on the Internet and you don't care what others think?
Good luck. Looks exactly like what it is. A cheap mismatched solution.
If your truck was a 2001 Toyota nobody would care, because the guy driving it is just looking for a topper that sorta fits. But current generation? Have fun, enjoy but don't expect everyone to think you did something good. Again, my opinion.

its a Tacoma. Not a G wagon. It looks good and matches up pretty good. People do plenty worse to taco’s here and I’ll bet your truck is one of them.

This looks great!!! From my own personal experience of buying a new leer xr topper for my 23, I can tell you that not one person has stopped me in a parking lot and said: "dude, the fit on that leer topper is perfect." Nobody cares, it's a topper. Nice work! :)

I like it when people find practical and cheap ways of doing things. Thanks for sharing and I hope your topper holds up well my dude!

Seriously, A month or so ago some guy was eyeballing my truck as my wife and I were coming out of the hardware store. I asked if I could help him and essentially said he was admiring my Leer topper and how well it fit. Asked me where I got it and what I paid for it.

    So yeah, it happens!

BTW, OP's doesn't look too bad. I've seen a LOT worse.

you did good! if i were looking for a topper that i would take on and off depending on my needs, i would consider something like this.

for a permanent topper that remains on the truck, i couldn't live with it and would look for a used or order new to match the truck.
