Check your Air Intake Hose Clamp

?

Did your Turd Gen have a loose/undertorqued air intake hoseclamp

  1. Nope. Both were relatively tight.

Several of us in the MAF clean thread have reported that at least one hose clamp on the air intake box is significantly loose from the factory. For me, the one you can see with the plastic engine cover closed was not even hand tight, in addition to several other members. The second clamp under the plastic cover was about a half turn looser than what I'd consider tight. Build date of the truck seems to be irrelevant.

As this interface is downstream of the MAF, its possible that air flow is allowed to bypass the filter, and may result in sluggish throttle response or inconsistent/decreased fuel economy.

Please use this thread to post your findings, and any impact it's made on driveability.

Glad to see this thread, my 2017 manufactured in 02/17 had this clamp very loose!

This is a very very good callout - the clamp on mine when I cleaned my MAF was also loose. It wasn't even hand tightened.. and took several twists to get it tight enough for my liking. Throttle response has been much better since both the leaning of the MAF and tightening of the clamp.

Hasn't resolved all of my issues by any means (MISFIRE city...) but definitely addressed some high MAF readings and significant bogging I was experiencing before.

Where else would you check for potential intake leaks? I'm pretty sure my intake is operating as expected following my MAF clean and clamp tighten but damn I can't really trust that anything was torqued or assembled properly. Sad, but true :(

grab a bottle of starter fluid and spray around---any leaks will cause RPMs to spike.

Hey, thanx OP.... I just checked my 09/15 born on date.... and the clamp in question was not "real" loose , but it took a full turn or so of the 1/4" ratchet....... Loose enough, in MY opinion to allow extra air in there...

Good thread mateo, loose clamps can cause driveablity issues for some, my build is 2/16 and clamp is tighter than a crab's ass!

    Cheers!

Just that metal clamp on the intake hose right?

Mine was as tight as could be. If I turned it any more I might start breaking stuff.

Mine looks to have a notch that makes it sit in place differently than the ops pic. Do you guys have that? It's on the opposite side of the hose from the maf.

Mine does have a little locating tab on the side towards the front of the truck. You can see his towards the bottom of the clamp.
