Its literally the number 1 thing to check every 5000 miles in the hand book. What could be so important about a floor mat?

It was called out as a root cause of the unwanted acceleration issue that popped up a few years ago, where a bunch of morons drove their Toyotas into shit.

I checked underneath hoping there would be a big hole that I could dangle my feet through.

I think it stems from a class action law suit that claimed Toyota's floor mats got stuck on the gas pedal which caused numerous accidents that resulted in a few deaths. One of which happened in San Diego at the off ramp off the 125/52 interchange.

They blame the mat for getting under the pedals or with the drivers feet getting caught up in it for some accidents. It's a lawyer thing.

Like I said. "It's a lawyer thing". Don't try to make real common sense out of it.

    See my build page!
The driver's side like to go over to the passenger side for a 3-way with the rear mat. So it's important to have to attached to the vehicle or else it will result in unwanted coasters...

Mine had the wrong ones installed from the dealership originally. They put the ones for a manual transmission in instead of the automatic. I went back the next day and they installed the correct ones.

I had this happen once about 25 years ago in my 91 Ford Ranger. Pedal got stuck under the mat but lucky for me it was a manual so I got on the clutch and turned off the ignition.

With an auto you can do the same. Move the shifter to neutral and shut the ignition off.

The problem is that is not normally part of you muscle memory. Your brain doesn't remember that pattern. When your very heavy vehicle suddenly starts launching itself, most auto drivers reaction will be to just slam that brake pedal with all their weight. And when that doesn't work, most brains just freeze to the incoming horror. Because they haven't practiced reaching down and moving that selector up one.

Stick guys have to do this constantly when they drive. So it is going to be a "no brainer".

Not to diminish your fantastic save. For it was fantastic. Just saying you were well primed.
