Hi, new member here. I have a 2001 Tacoma SR5 double cab.

Check engine light came on the other day. I had just replaced the AC blower, so figured it may be because of that.

Used my code reader and got the P1780 code.
    PNP Switch malfunction.
Cleared the code, light went out.
Went for a drive and it came back on, same error code again.

My truck shows none of the symptoms of a bad PNP Switch, all gauges and lights work, it starts, idles, and shifts fine. Runs like a well oiled machine.

Do I need be concerned with driving it right now?
Will I need to replace the PNP Switch?

    Thanks.

Nothing wrong with driving it, only issue is that your CEL will obviously still be on so if it throws another code you won't know

    Thanks.
I don't anticipated any more codes, this is the first time the check engine light has ever been on since I bought it 7 years ago.
I'll still check it with my code reader once in awhile just in case until I get the time to remove the PNP and clean it or replace it.

    Ok.

Erased the code to turn the CEL off again, and took it for a drive.
Everything was fine until I shifted into reverse, the CEL came on again.
Code reader threw the P1780 once again.

So, I removed the PNP Switch and found that the contact points inside, especially in the R position were pretty cruddy with corrosion.
I cleaned them up, reinstalled, and cleared the code again.

Took it for a drive......good to go, no error light after shifting to all positions multiple times.
