Been asked many times, its nothing more than the system telling you that your battery is not being charged. If you are sitting there with stuff on such as radio or lights and engine not running, you are taking a charge from the battery without replenishing it. Just start the engine and the message will go away. System operating as designed.

Totally normal, if that screen appears after you start the engine then you have an issue.

You do realize you have a book that has the answers to these questions right? The owner's manual has a ton of really neat information about your truck. It's actually a source that many of us use.

Is this your first trip off the farm OP?

I've read a bunch of your threads and I'm shaking my head.

Every car since 1970 will display charging system error if the ignition is ON and the car isn't running.

May I ask how old you are?

VARIES BY STATE SO CHECK WHAT YOURS IS.
    WHY ARE WE YELLING?

Jokes aside, our trucks will shut off after some time when you listen to the radio when using accessory mode to save power. I've read to avoid it, press accessory mode when shifted in a different gear other than Park. I haven't tried it personally but I guess that gives me a reason to go to the drive-in lol

Very helpful. Questions been answered, asking someone's age because they asked a question is a dick move.

That´s not very Canadian of you.
Older vehicles would just show a battery light, this may be the first the vehicle OP had with fancy messages. It can concern a person with all this technology and I think Toyota could have made it little more simple.
As for the other threads by OP, I didn´t go see what they were, but again, if this is the first vehicle with all this new technology it can be overwhelming. OP asked a question, got the answer, there were a few more good tips such as post 3 and 4, and that was that. Sometimes threads like this can get derailed with some shenanigans, but no need to be an ass.

Great name- reminds me of a part from a great kid’s book:

    “He was shortish. And oldish.
    And brownish. And mossy.
And he spoke with a voice
that was Sharpish and bossy.” :)

Remember, some of us older folks here know how to contend with slipped points and sunken floats before you were probably in diapers, and some of us even had grandparents with cars that only had a crank lever and did not have a battery or electric motor to start them! :anonymous:

I always give my highest respects for those who paved the way to the cars we drive today- those who know how to set a manual choke, gap a set of points, rebuild a carburetor and start a Model T without busting their arm or jaw . If ever in any true mechanical need, they’re the ones who know how to fix them. Dang, my grandfather had a jeep pickup with a PTO winch that could crush cars if he wrapped the cable around them. He could fix anything, provided that it wasn’t digital electronics. During WWII, he even built a woodgas generator to run his truck on wood, so bringing up someone’s age as an insult is really in poor taste.

Ok, now I’m acting like a triggered Once-ler, so I’ll get off my box...

Found this old post while looking for an answer to a similar question. Didn’t realize what a bunch of assholes this forum had in it. Hope it improves.
And for the idiot concerned about age I’m nearly 50 and have owned many cars.

Really though, if you are going to last around here, you must be able to look over the B.S. There are some good people here with good information and helpful, but there are more shenanigans that happen. It makes it a high traffic forum and helps it to not be boring.

Lights replacement, and mudflaps so far....
I'm having this issue. About a week ago, I started getting the Check Chargeing System Light, while driving. I have a GPS tracker connected to my truck that informs me when my battery is lower than 12.5 volts. My truck died, but quickly rebooted itself and I was able to get home. I quickly took it to a nearby shop. They said my battery connection was loose and sent me on my way. I still got the Check Chargeing System and alerts from my GPS. The next day I took my truck to my well trusted mechanic. He said my battery and alternator was fine. He said there was no way that my alternator would died out this quickly on my 2017 Tacoma with just 50,000 miles on it. He said take it to the dealership and have them fix my computer system. So I did. The dealership was quick to diagnose my issue as a bad alternator and they replaced it. As soon I went to pick up my truck with the new alternator, I got an alert from my GPS app that my battery was low at a 11.5 Volt charge. I informed the dealership of this, and he said I just need to drive it home and that will charge the battery. I barely drove it 3 mins until the warning light came back on to check chargeing system. So I went to Autozone and just replaced the battery with a new Duralast Gold made this month, just to insure it was not a battery issue. Well, that didn't work. Because today while driving back home from the grocery store, I got the alert and the truck died on me in the middle of the road. I was not able to start it on my own and call for a tow truck. When the tow arrived, he jumped it multiple times just for it to die every 10 to 30 seconds. Right now, its back at the dealership.

I do have the OEM Audio Plus sound system, got the Raptor lights t-sliced in my right side headlights, under hood lights (3 amps) and bedlights (3 amps) on my truck, all protected by fuses. Oh, an add-a-fuse on the panel fuse, on the interior fuse box. None of those things should be interfering with my electrical system.
Update: I simply had a lose nut in my OEM fuse box which was drawing power

My 2018 Tacoma has 15,000 miles and the “check charging system” light came on the other day while driving. According to the manual this means it needs immediate dealer attention. Any ideas what the problem is and does it need to go to the dealer? Truck was bought new 22 months ago, so may be covered under warranty.
