Last week I purchased a new 2016 Tacoma Double Cab TRD with optional tonneau cover and all weather floor mats. Test drove it and I liked it, except the drivers seat is too low.

After reading owners manual I found that if the start button is pressed once with your foot off the brake the radio can be turned on. Press the start button twice with your foot off the brake and all of the electronics turn on.The "check charging system" message displays when the start button is pressed twice with your foot off the brake. I thought maybe the battery is low so I trickle charged the battery with 2 volts for about 12 hours and brought the battery up to full charge. The "check charging system" message still displays when the start button is pressed twice with your foot off the brake.

However, the "check charging system" message does NOT display when the engine is started or when driving around, at least not yet during the one week I have owned the truck. I don't get why the message would display with the engine off but not when the engine is running?

Does anyone else have a 2016 Tacoma that does this? Should I take the truck to the dealer service department to have them check into this?

Mine does this too just as you describe above. It probably is like the accessory mode that powers everything up like rolling windows up/down, not just the radio, so it will drain the battery faster. That's just my opinion, don't know for sure, but doesn't seem to be a problem.

Because the alternator is recharging the battery. It's what they do. Every car is like that.

First time driving or just first time driving a push button vehicle?
It's the equivalent to turning a key ignition to acc and on without the engine running.

This Tacoma is the first vehicle I have ever owned that has a keyless push button ignition.

It's warning you you are draining the battery.

Me too. I tried to get a custom order for a regular key fob with my TRDOR, but it wasn't feasible, so I have this pushbutton. It is weird to get used to for sure.

It is one of those really unnecessary messages (probably there b/c someone sued for having a dead battery after leaving the car on). The alternator recharges the battery (as everyone should know), and it only runs when the engine is running (again everyone should know), therefore, when the engine is not running, the alternator isn't charging. so the CPU thinks that something is wrong since it isn't receiving a charge.

Sorry to bring up an old post.

But has anyone gone to the drive-ins without issue? The warning light comes on instantly in accessory mode. Wondering how long it can sit using the radio.
