Check charging system light

I’ve had the truck maybe two months, it runs perfect. But I’ve noticed whenever I had the key turned to accessory with the engine not running I get this “check charging system” warning come up. Is this just to warn you that you’re using the battery’s power while the engine is off? Or does it mean the voltage on the battery is lower than it should be?

 

Yes. It's normal.

 

Normal. Think of it as a fancy "battery" idiot light.

 

It's just letting you know that you are using the battery.

 

I’m surprised there’s not an idiot light for an idiot light.

 

Just look into the rear view mirror for that.

Perfectly normal. Engine is not running so the alternator isn't turning and therefore not charging the battery. Vehicles with just a little red battery light do the same, I just don't think people notice those as quick. If you see that with the engine running then you have a problem.

 

Our Tacoma has this warning light while running it. Had to replace the battery. Now it's doing it again. Took it to Toyota and they can't figure it out. Frustrated.
