To be fair, I think TrailGear is the cheapest for both.

Honestly for what you’re gonna pay for the Trailgear front bumper that really doesn’t give you much protection, you could spend $300 more and get an ARB. Ships free from 4 wheel parts.

Trail Gear is cheapest but I don't care much for the looks of it...you could probably find a local fabricator to make a simple one for you for less than a TG one costs after shipping

For the $800+ for an ARB I'd rather spend the extra money and get a Relentless or wait it out for a Pelfreybilt - the inside of the ARB is pretty much hollow compared to the other two and reflects in its relatively light weight.

I'm getting a Trail Gear - until I can get some fab tools and make one like this

Pretty sure it’s designed that way to maintain crush zones. No other bumper is designed to be in a crash other than ARB. All the other ones that are built stout and bolted right to the frame will screw up a frame big time in a crash. And I figure if the ARB is good enough for the Australian bush, it’ll handle what I can throw at it.

Everything is a comprimise. In this case strenght vs weight.

If you plan on smashing your truck into stuff like trees and boulders get a relentless or pelfreybilt.

However, if you do mild wheeling and you might bump into, rather than smash into things the ARB or trail gear might be better.

For me I picked the ARB because I don't plan on smashing, but I do plan on bumping into the occasional boulder. It'll also hold a winch pretty well. More importantly the ARB is 78 pounds, the relentless is 140...that's 62 pounds differance. That's no joke.

One thing that's fairly common on this forum is the disregard for how much shit weighs. Heavier is not always better. Sometimes it is but every effort should be make to keep your truck light.

By extra money you mean several hundred dollars more and possbly several months of wait time. I will say I think the relentless and Pelfreybilt are much much better looking than the ARB or the Trail gear bumpers. Like you said they are far more stout and will for sure take a bigger beating. However, that comes at a cost of a very heavy bumper and impact shock being transferred to the frame rather than being absorbed by the bumper.

    Just my $.02

    All good points.

With a winch I'm going to try to keep my front end as light as possible. That's why I like the removable winch tray on @lembowski's truck.

Must be something about guys that make bumpers and offensive tirades but there's a guy a couple towns over that makes the best looking and burly bumpers but after reading some inappropriate stuff on Instagram from him the principle of the thing has left a bad taste in my mouth.

The guy from addicted came on here accusing everyone that was sticking up for a guy he kept waiting about double the advertised lead time on a bumper to be millennial whiners expecting instant gratification. Not doing business with him either.

Why do you want a "cheap" bumper? Are you looking for a winch bumper with off-road protection and just don't have an unlimited budget (like most of us)? Or do you not really care what it is and just want the cheapest thing available to replace a dented stock bumper? Or do you want that "off road look" but don't want to spend the money to have it be functional?

If you want cheap, like really cheap, just cut a 4x8 and lag bolt it to your frame. Make sure it's pressure treated though, you don't want that thing to rot prematurely... :)

But if you want a bumper with off-road protection, winch mount, etc... take a real serious look at your budget, and what you want out of your new bumper. IMO, you would be better off saving up another couple hundred bucks and buying once, than buying the cheapest bumper available (there is a reason it's the cheapest, after all), realizing it's not really up to the task, then buying *another* bumper down the road. Buy once, cry once.

Another option is a DIY kit. If you've got a welder (or a friend with a welder and some beer), you can build your own bumper with a kit from nwtrailinnovations.com for ~$400 (plus they have a 10% off sale right now...). They just came out with a new 1st gen taco open top winch bumper that's 10% lighter and stronger than their previous one.

I know you asked about tube bumpers, I'm not aware of any DIY tube bumper kits, but there's gotta be someone that makes one. If not, you could just build your own, too, if DIY is your thing.
