So I got my Retrax MX Pro installed up today and it's great so far. Problem is (as we all know) is that no cover is 100% waterproof. I'd like to start keeping my duty bag and gear in the bed of my truck now that I have the Retrax but for obvious reasons I can't afford my stuff getting wet. I really like the Roam but it's also ridiculously expensive... I know there are off brands to coolers; does anyone know of an alternative to the Roam? It doesn't even have to be 100% waterproof, being covered by the Retrax will keep it mostly dry by default, it's just that little bit extra protection I'd like. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

These are actually pretty decent, there's other sizes and what not, I have two of the bigger square ish ones I keep behind the seats in my access cab that are about even with the factory storage bins so the area is nearly a flat platform there.

Roam cases are overkill, but definitely not expensive.

I could go totally Broverlander and go ARB front and rear bumpers, Prinsu roof rack, dual Roam cases, and the coolest shovels attached to the flip-up Delta VS rear side window replacements :burp:

The Delta VS goodies would just match the interior goods I've already got.

I will say, I found the gas springs in the Roam case to be conveniently useful. Undo the latches and it'll open right up for ya.

I have to know. What is the “cool” shovel? I’ve had a lot of shovels but I don’t think I’ve ever had a cool one.

    Couldn't tell you.

I don't even wheel, much less fit in with the whole mall-crawler crowd :pout:

Damnit. I guess if we need a shovel we are stuck with our crappy peasant model. I wouldn’t mind picking up one of those cases though. They look pretty nice. How secure would you say it is? Takes a padlock I’m guessing?

Can't get stuck if you don't go off road :burp:

Unfortunately, no sort of padlock will work.

Here are some old pics of when I first got it.

I didn't keep anything I'd deem valuable, well of monetary value that is; I'd rip someone's head off if they tried to steal my woobie though.

I used a single one of those wire-locks (TSA-approved type) to keep things secured. Really more of a slight deterrent since there's no real way to lock it up with a big lock.

I did like how it mounted to the Sherpa roof rack I had it on though; changing out the metric head bolts to allen definitely made it more secure (in my mind at least).

I use both of these under my OEM bed cover. The Plano can get a little heavy when full. I also have a Plano with a hinge that I don't like as well. Hinge is flimsy. The Iris totes are what I use the most.

I know this is an older thread but I just went down this rabbit hole. Unless you are looking for secure storage that is completely exposed to the elements 24/7, there is no need to spend Roam type money. There are tones of storage bin options out there. These are the best deal I could find for waterproof bins that are more than capable of keeping camping gear, etc. dry in the truck bed.
