    Stock for now
I lost one of my factory keys. Wanted a replacement and didn’t want to pay the 450 for one key!
I looked for a way to do it myself.

I found this company called Tom’s Key.

    https://tomskey.com/pages/how-to-program-toyota-keys-and-remotes

I watched the video and gave them a try.

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BMvE9N5VYWA

I programmed two keys in fifteen minutes. I now have 3 keys. I am storing my last factory key so I always have it and now have 2 others.

Never lost a key in my life. Then you have a blue heeler who can randomly select a new chew toy! The key didn’t survive, but my pup was a champ and has lost his taste for keys after passing that thing.

I really recommend this company and want to see them succeed further due to how easy and inexpensive they have made this process compared to high dealer costs.

$450 for a replacement key??? :bananadead:

Hory Clap, that's a load of cash. I'll make sure to keep my second factory key in a safe, inside a vault, inside a volcano, with the Starburst Juicedratic equation for extra safe keeping........:locked:

Good valuable information. Thanks for sharing. It is unbelievable what the dealers get away with charging what they do!

I happened to be in my local Ace hardware store searching for fasteners, and overheard a customer talking to an employee about having a key cut. So later, I went to their key counter and found that they not only cut keys of most makes and models, but they also program them. I would have never thought an Ace would have that technology, but... So, before you go to a Dealer, try your local hardware store. I support them whenever I can. Cheers

Ace can’t do Tacoma keyless fobs though.

went to ACE the other day to ask about cutting and possibly programming a new key for my truck..... $350 per key, programmed and cut. They wouldn't cut just a blank on the spot because they'd have to order the key first.

I just ordered a fob key and a valet key from Tom and rented the programmer. $125 for 2 keys is way cheaper than $350 for one (the $80 security deposit is refunded once you return the programmer). Once I've got them programmed I'll take them back to ACE to see if they'll cut them.

Love a good Tacomaworld DIY. Thanks OP

    Nice…

this summer I dropped my keys in a beautiful High Cascade lake while kayaking. Met the nicest mobile locksmith out of Bend Oregon.

1/2 hour after he got there I had two new chip keys and a new fob… $440

and I had spares at home. Live and learn.

Got my keys and programmed them today. Took about 20min. Super easy while watching the YouTube video step by step.

    Would definitely recommend

Many thanks for posting this! After dropping snap together key fobs for my older red truck, a 2007 dealer rental Chevy Mal'bu purchased in 2009 at Anchorage, the first accessory I bought for the '09 Tacoma SR5 DLT (Dad's Last Truck) that I purchased in 2021 was the AJT Design screw-back key fob that provides full support for the circuit board and battery clip. This thread provided another no-brainer purchase to replace the two key fobs that came with the Mal'bu. (I asked the dealer and we rummaged through a box of spare fobs to find a second fob, which was programmed before we left the lot.) https://www.ajtdesign-llc.com/online-store/Toyota-c70214003 (Warning: I since replaced the second fob case that holds the spare and master Tacoma keys, the climate control knobs and more. Adam J. Turley is a great guy, too.)
