I started Prepping and painting Chassis Saver on my frame. It is a pretty low rust 2004 4 door. If in the next year i plan to weld on frame reinforcement plates like this:

or another brand. In those parts of the C frame that will become "boxed" perhaps it is unwise to use chassis saver. I never used chassis saver before, i do not know how much maintenance it needs or how it stands up to heat from welding. But I already determined applying it inside a boxed frame is not great due to uneven or "too thick" coverage (happy to hear other opinions).

    Back ground:
Plan was to use wire brush then Chassis saver on all exterior of all frames (some parts can not be hit with wire brush). on the inside of boxed frames i planed a chemical rust remover then rustolium with a garden sprayer.

Those frame plates get welded on the outside of the frame. It won't box the c channel.

ok. my bad. But some of them do box it and strength to weight ratio of a boxed system is better so that is what i will use.

EDIT: WTF, i swore some kits were but i can not find any right now. maybe they were all DIY with plates?

In my experience in the harsh north east of Canada, your best bet is a liquid undercoating. Fluid film, rust check, Krown, all very good products. They stay liquid and creep into all the crevices of your frame welds, body panels etc. When a truck rusts it usually starts in tight nooks and crannies where you could never reach with paint, or that awful hardening style undercoating. Re apply fluid film etc yearly. I usually apply late fall.

This nozzle is good for inside your frame. You can get it for a spray gun as well

Yes. But painting over a truck that had fluid film is a bitch. Just got the truck this year. Plan to prep and paint OR prep and chassis saver the best I can before the first coat of fluid film. Then fluid film every fall and spring.

Fluid film and others get into the body and the crevices. I sing it's virtues and balance need for paint vs fluid-film in this post.

I need this truck to last forever. I really hate the direction new trucks and cars are going and i do not want to own anything newer. Investing in rust prevention the best i can.

Fair enough. I thought you were only using paint
