Is anyone out there aware of an adapter kit to change over the oil filter assembly that uses the replacement paper filter element ( Toyo p/n: 04152-31090) and housing with a standard spin on oil filter? I'd like to go back to a simple spin on oil filter. No special wrench, no O rings to replace, no canister housing to clean. Ugg.

There is a baxter spin on thread around here somewhere, just search for "Baxter" and it will pop up.

Paper provides better ISO filtration than spin on filter.
    But you do you lol.

^^^^^ this but, understand... this is not cheap. get the correct tools, (all of them), learn how to do oil changes with the cartridge, and embrace the suck. it really isnt that bad.

He's right about everything. The spin on adapters are ridiculously expensive and you're not saving that much time or convenience.

It took me one change to figure out the paper, I had it down when I did my second service. It really isn't that bad.

yeah, my other car looks like this, so originally i was fully prepared to do the baxter conversion to get the truck to be just as easy:
    2013-Subaru-BRZ-Engine-Bay_335e4fa6e152268ea8d840162940db750d599d98.jpg

but in all reality, i've changed it once now while using that kit, and it's honestly not terrible at all. my old ford ranger had a side-mount spin-on filter that dumped everything while trying to take it off. with the taco, between the central filter drain, and the housing to catch the rest, i didn't spill any. which is quite the accomplishment for me.

i picked up a spare housing, so i can prep the new filter and housing in one shot, and deal with the old filter/housing away from underneath the truck to make it slightly easier, but otherwise, i'm not as offended with the filter setup on this truck as i thought i was going to be.

i'm actually more irritated by the skidplate setup blocking access than i am any of the oil change portion...

Update to the trd skid plate, it has an access hole, so you dont have to remove the plate for changes. yes, it is some coin but, it looks great functions well off road, and gives you better access for services. Ski

There is a spin on adopter, but If I were you, I’d stay far away from anything other than the OEM setup, as these engines appear to be very sensitive in that area.

But that’s just IMHO, It's your truck, your money.

This is the easiest oil change ive ever done on a vehicle, ive never understood why others struggle with it.

Crazy talk! I was very please on my first 3rd gen oil change. I thought, this is great, I no longer need to cut open the filter can for inspection.

This system saves me time and mess.

I went with the baxter, well built, fits great, good customer service too. I work with orings a lot for my job and did put some oring lube on it before torquing it down, rubbing some oil on them would probably serve the same purpose...never a good idea to tighten down dry orings ;)

Mine doesn't have the access cover (trd offroad 4x4), aside from having the trd vin and stickers it also has the trans skid plate...so not sure why mine is different, I've seen many folks who do have that door on the skid plate but for some reason mine is one of the ones that doesn't

not easier than a spin on filter *shrug, the cartridge is impossible to be easier than that if we're being honest. if you like it fine, some don't...it's not that it's a "struggle" it's that the spin on is just easier and honestly...in my experience, better built filter. BUT it also allows for a larger filter element to be used which is another plus in addition to being faster, easier, and cleaner than the cartridge.

I cant agree with that. I'd say there's no difference.

And it's no harder to do, just more steps. I can do the oil change in less than 15 minutes. 3 of that is the R&R of the SR skid plate. If I had a spin-on, I'd guess about 14 minutes.
    For me, thats a wash.

why is that? I change the filter every 5k and the oil every 25k because I use amsoil. Every oil change my truck has had I did and before I used amsoil it was 5k for filter and 10k for oil...and only this last oil change did I switch to the baxter adapter and it's amazing...the cartridge filter was always mobile one and more than once the plastic keeper was cracked meaning oil was bypassing the filter so I do not like them. not sure what you're getting at, nothing I said would imply such an asinine observation. I've probably done more oil changes in one year than most do in a lifetime (it was my job for 3 years)...and I always do my own fluid changes...not just motor oil ;)

I bought mobile one only filters, more than once the plastic keeper at the top was cracked when I took the old one off which means the oil bypassed the filter...they're garbage imo. I never said they were hard...but they certainly aren't as simple and easy as a spin on filter...just simple physics. fewer steps does equal easier/simpler, there's no bragging rights for doing something that's more involved when you don't really need to...it's just...dumb XD I'm older (40) so simpler is superior...plus the failed filters I've previously seen, it was a no brainer to install the baxter *shrug Go you for still using the more steps process I guess, not something to brag about but go ahead, I won't stop you lol

Unless your using Amsoil special bypass filter system, your just pumping dirt thru your engine. I see stuck oil rings in your future.
