What's up guys. My clutch is slipping on a 2016 TRD Sport with 50k miles. I've driven stick for over 20 years and I never had one go this fast but I did buy the truck used with 25k miles on it so who knows what the previous owner was doing. It does not really slip in first and second gear but once I get into the higher gears on the highway it definitely slips when I step on the gas.

I will be getting it changed soon by a shop and will be using the URD Stage 2 clutch.

What else should I tell the shop to change while they are in there changing out my clutch? Any words of advice or recommendations? I don't want to find out later on in the process that I should have changed other things so I'm hoping you guys can help out.

This is the clutch I will most likely be using.

    Thank you.

If its a good shop they should be able to tell you.... frankly while you're in there parts are normal i wouldnt expect the rear main seal to be an issue for another 100k, Throwout bearing, flywheel resurface (some dont do it but its good to make sure all surfaces are flat)

i have the same experience as you. no real slippage down low but on the highway i slip often. i have a URD Stg2 clutch on my garage floor ready to go, just need to make the time for install.

here's my suggestion for you, huge improvement for the experienced MT owner.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/mt-accumulator-delete-mod-adm-and-bs-thread.568303/

and by the way, we haven't had the TOB and noise problems as with the second gens. and as far as i can find, there is no upgraded TOB available for our R62F's at this time... someone correct me if that's changed.

Curious, how big of a job is it to change the clutch? Inevitable service if I keep the truck, would love to have an idea.

Normally replace clutch disc, pressure plate, T/O bearing and resurface flywheel if it has a hot spots or a vibration when releasing clutch. Yes worn at 50 k miles sounds not normal.

Thank you all for your suggestions. Much appreciated. I'll research everything you guys suggested and will be sure to bring up to the shop (even though they know what to do).

If your clutch is slipping at 50k, it could be a leaking rear main seal that did it in and it doesn’t take much oil to get on the clutch plates to make it slip, so that should be changed anyways. Also, replace the throwout bearing, bell housing gasket, along with what cbrcolin says, etc.

Curious- have you done any high water crossings?

Personally I would replace that rear main while you’re into it that far. Cheap insurance and peace of mind. Takes 5 extra minutes if that.

And don’t forget to grease the release fork pivot!!

I was just curious if there was any chance of muck getting into the clutch.

to update in case anybody is changing the clutch in the future.

I ended up ordering the URD Stage 2 clutch. Should be here in the next few days. I also found a shop that will do the install for me. I will update when it gets completed with a review.
