Sounds like your mind was already made up before you even called the dealership. Everybodys got a job to do (even Ditzy Mitzy and the snot nosed high school kid), don't gotta be rude to the people, you called them.

Straight out of the "Warranty and Maintenance Guide..."

    Maintenance Providers

Maintenance and repair services may be performed by you or by any automotive service provider you choose. Toyota will not deny a warranty claim solely because you used a service provider other than a Toyota dealership for maintenance and repairs. However, damage or failure caused by improper maintenance or repairs is not covered under warranty.

    REPLACEMENT PARTS

Warranty coverage is not dependent upon the use of any particular brand
of replacement parts. However, Toyota recommends using only Genuine Toyota Parts when you need to replace a part
    on your vehicle.

This is the same for every automaker. They can't say you have to only service it there or the warranty it void. That is actually not legal. Now if you use parts or fluids that are not up to the specific standards in the owner's manual or service manual then yes they can void it , same for not doing the service.
Just follow the manual and use the oil that meets the specs and a quality filter you will be good. Record it someplace like others said.

Personally I have changed the oil in all my vehicles since I had a driver's license so I'm very inclined to do it myself too and probably more than every 10,000 miles. I'll take the oil changes and service included with the purchase of the my truck. Anything outside of what they do will be done by me or my independent mechanic.

You can do your own services or have them done at a mechanic of your choice by law. But if you go this route, you must keep thorough receipts to verify that you used the manufacturer's recommended products (oil, filter, fluids, etc.). If you can't prove you maintained the vehicle per their specs, then they could deny a warranty claim if it's associated with whatever service you performed and don't have receipts for.

I'm just waiting for the first person to get worked up and mention; they can't do that, it's against the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act!!:rofl:

Lol pride of ownership. I do things myself nobody else can do for a reasonable price, like build a solid wood mahogany table etc. I just built a 5'X9' rolling barn door for my home. It was quoted at $2500. I had less than $200 in materials. I take no pride in being able to do what most humans, even snot nosed high school kids, can do.
There is no art, skill or style in changing your own oil. Hell, at least mowing your own yard lets you be creative and you can see the result of your actions.
You keep changing your oil. Have fun. Good luck.

Last snot-nosed kid to change my oil left their oil wrench stuck between my skid plate and the oil pan, and they couldn’t get the skid plate on correctly because of the wrench, so they left it hanging by only two partially tightened bolts and it almost fell off on my way home.

Others here have had their tranny drained and not refilled, and some had stripped and broken leaking oil filters, and were blamed and denied warranty repair for it.

    No thanks!

I purchased my 2013 brand new and It have NEVER EVER been back to the dealer for anything. I don't trust anyone but myself working on my vehicle. I don't think the manufacturer can void the warranty because you performed a routine service.

When I was in for my first ‘non free’ service they walked up to me with an estimate of ~$800 at 30k. They had a bunch of stuff listed and said here’s all the service items. I had already looked up the maintenance recommendations so I said I don’t recall some of those those being in the 30k list. Service writer says yep, these are the recommended items. I said hmmm, let’s take a look at my handy Toyota App and see what it says. So I dig into my phone app and pull up the service schedule. Yep, I don’t see those 4 items here. Oh, well these are ‘our’ recommended items. Yeah.... I think I’m going with the Toyota recommended list. So... your saying you don’t want to go with the recommended service from your Toyota dealership? Yes, thats what I’m saying, can we move along now?

They were clearly trying to pass off their upsale service as Toyota Recommended.

I'm in El Paso,TX and I've had 4 Tacoma trucks going back to the 1990's and at this dealer I've never had anything like that happen. Maybe it's time to go to a different dealer.

I'm at 76k miles now and seems like they did a good job so far!!!

I have always serviced my at the dealership and I have always bought the 100k extended warranty just for peace of mind. And I have never had to use it on any of my 4 Tacomas. My 1999 had over 200k and was all original even the transmission was stock. Loved that truck.

they change at 10k miles OR 12 months.

    http://toyota.custhelp.com/app/answ...the-oil-change-intervals-using-synthetic-oil?

even if you have only driven 100 miles, if it has been 12 months they will change the oil.

You sure about the oil changes at 5k miles?

    I’m not sure you’re sure.

But I’m pretty sure you’re not sure.
