I recently changed my front brake pads and left the rotors untouched

is there any benefit to change the rotors or resurface if they are not warped and smooth

i put about 1k mikes on it since

I went thru this myself I got about 120k miles on the original rotors and the front pads getting low 5mm not pulling or vibes. I checked the thickness with a HF micrometer was like 27.3mm new they are 28mm minimum thickness is 26mm they are still on the truck. recently Toyota had a very good sale on parts so I bought all new pads/shims/rotors OEM parts to put on later total cost $200.76 w/ free shipping, if they didn't have that sale I probably would have just replaced the pads since the thickness was in spec no vibes on stopping

There's the "best" way to do it (change rotors too) and then there's what 95% of people really do - change just the pads. As long as you knocked the glaze off the rotors you'll be fine.

No. If the rotor is in good shape and is still above the minimum thickness requirement, you won't see any gains.

You will see gains if you replace the rotor with a higher performance one.

I think so too, if you got the money for rotors then get them, if its tight check the rotor thickness clean the rotors up use again, if that don't pull or have vibes

You do not need to resurface the rotor provided it isn’t warped. I take some 120 grit sandpaper and sand the glaze off of both sides of the rotor when I put on a new set of pads.

It's called a pad slap and it's common with the $49 brake jobs. It's generally safe but it's not my preferred method. One thing to consider is how much do you rely on your brakes? I usually spend the money on tires and brakes, because they are critical and it's much nicer to drive.

If they are in good shape you're probably fine. However, there can be small deformations that you can't really see but might cause some squeaking or shaking later as the pad break in.

Check the run out on the rotors to make sure they are not warped/wavy/not flat and they meet the minimum thickness requirements. You can always pull the rotors and see if they can be turned, then they will be for sure smooth and flat. It's much cheaper than new ones.

I will run my hand across both sides of the rotor surface. If there are no perceivable flaws, such as grooves or pitting, I give it a quick scruff of the rotor surface with a (green) Scotchbright pad, then just swap the pads. There is no reason to swap rotors if they are in great shape. You can bet most aftermarket rotors will be inferior to OEM.

I’m going to agree with the rest.

    In general if;
You are doing them for someone other than yourself, Pads + Rotors + Hardware.

If it’s your truck, check the condition or the Rotors.
If they are good, Pads and New Hardware.

I ended up getting a pair of Raybestos off Amazon.

so I will slap on these rotors. I’m ok with aftermarket and it’s not my daily driver. More my weekend driver. Not sure if they are original or have a tool to measure so I’ll just spend the time later today to put these on.

Changing just the brake pads is fine..... no need to replace rotors unless they’re bad as well

I still have the factory rotors on my 2007 with 207,000 miles on them. They have been turned twice and will have to be replaced the next time, but I figure I have another 40,000 to 50,000 miles before I have to do that.

I think we can safely say you replaced the rotors too.
