Anyone running a champion cc 1998 4 runner radiator in there 2001-2004 Tacoma?

I heard that because the hood is shaped different on the 2001-2004 vs. the 1995.5-2000 it we’ll work.

    Anyone using this radiator?

I understand how things work with the CC1778

Heard there where 2-3 people that used the CC1998

All I can add is I installed a Radiator made for the mid eighties 3.0 in my 2000 Tacoma it was just a matter of welding the brackets from the Tacoma to the radiator

Just for reference for others with the 2001-2004 hoods to be able to use the 4 runner radiator.

What shroud did you use, 2001 Tacoma 5 speed, Tacoma auto, 4 runner auto? You have a 5 speed?

What lower radiator hose did you use? 2001 Tacoma 5 speed, Tacoma auto, 4 runner auto hose?
@1997tacomav6 i used a 96-02 4runner/95-04 auto Tacoma shroud. 3.4 Tacoma’s with an automatic use thesame radiator as 96-02 4Runner. As for the lower radiator hose I used the stock hose in my 2000 v6 5 speed. it puts tension on it, but it reaches. My 2004 Tacoma is an automatic so I used the stock hose with no issues. So the end result is if you get a shroud and lower radiator hose for a 3.4 4Runner,regardless of if it’s a 5 speed or automatic 4Runner, or 3.4 automatic Tacoma, and you’ll be set. I initially had this setup in my 2000 v6 supercharged 5 speed and it worked great. The only modification you need to make to the shroud is shave the lip at the top and bottom edges down so it sits flush against the tank. As for 95-00 Tacoma’s you need to clearance one of the hood crossmembers for the radiator cap so the hood will actually shut. As for skid plate I was running a budbuilt on my 2000 and it cleared. I’m running the stock on my 2004 with no issues

Yea personally if you go with the champion radiator you should get the 4runner radiator.
He says you need a 4 runner shroud, not sure why tho

I’ve done the 4Runner champion radiator, it’s been in 2 different trucks. The first one was my 2000 v6 5 speed. I had to get a fan shroud from a 4Runner cause a 5 speed Tacoma shroud doesn’t cover the entire radiator. I put that same radiator in my 2004 Double cab Tacoma, and the fan shroud works fine. All 4Runner’s and automatic Tacoma’s use the same fan shroud. 5 speed Tacoma’s fan shrouds are shorter. If you do this swap in a 5 speed Tacoma, I’d recommend the longer shroud and lower radiator hose

The Champion has NO rubber bushings designed into its radiator.

So I’m thinking if you put a rubber bushing in between the radiator and the front cowling, radiator support it might be the trick and there would be some play or flex available.
You might have to drill out the radiator nut hole so the bushing tail section can
    Fit in the radiator support

The bushings are made by Hillman at Lowe’s

Would this also cool your tranny better ? Does it have a trans cooler built in ? Does anyone running the champion radiator notice a difference in temperature for both engine and tranny?

I also agree with adding the bushings if it does not come with em. The OEM has them and it allows flex. I would assume longer bolts could be needed though.
