    Hi, I just bought a 2006 Taco 2.7 L 4 cyl,

The CEL light came on and the code is P0011,

I'm thinking its the VVT solenoid. A mechanic replaced the Oil Control Valve about 2 weeks ago, are they the same thing?

Where is a good place to get parts? and where in the engine is the solenoid located?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

Not the Same thing However the Oil Control valve malfunction can result in that code because Camshaft Position Actuators change the lift of the camshaft up to 25 degrees. They are hydraulic, which means that they use the vehicle’s engine oil to control lift. So, if you have low oil pressure or dirty oil, it can keep them from doing their job properly, and trigger P0011. First Thing I would think of doing is get an accurate number on what the Oil pressure is so do not start throwing Money at it hoping to fix it that way.

start at a Known point if he replaced the Oil control valve why? was that code there before he replaced it or show up after? Also when the last time oil and filter done? Oil level correct?

I plugged the code into my shop's software, Identifix. This is what the code description is: P0011 Camshaft Position 'A' Over-Advanced Or System Performance (Bank 1) - Manual and Automatic Transmission

    Possible Causes
    • Camshaft timing oil control valve unit has failed
    • OCV has failed (the resistance of the OCV is from 6.9-7.9 ohms at 68ºF)
    • Engine valve timing may be out of adjustment
    • Check the oil pipe and OCV filter for clogging or a restriction

So, it looks like it might be related to the OCV you had replaced recently.

    **edit**
It also notes these trouble areas:
    • Valve timing
    • Oil control valve (OCV)
    • OCV filter
    • Camshaft timing gear assembly
    • ECM

So, I had a bad bad deal with this car, I bought it straight of the airport cause my dad was in the ICU, and well basically bad stuff happens when you're in a rush.
The head gasket blown 2 days after i got it. fixed it, and then CEL came back on with P0011,P0016, P0300 (multiple cylinders missfiring) and they replaced the OCV.
Now, CEL came back on with P0011 code only. Maybe the other codes lurking, waiting til came back on

So they just replaced the oil, and ive been checking fluids everymorning, oil level is fine, and it looks good, color wise. How do i check the oil pressure? no gauge on the dashboard.

You will have to locate the oil pressure
This is where a little help from others here is needed I have not worked on the 4 cylinder 2.7 in like forever however the typical location of the sender next to the oil filter and you can get an electronic gauge to hook to that(got to know wiring to do) or you can put a "T" in where the sender is and hook a mechanical one up temporary to see what the pressure really is. But again hopefully other TW folks who know this engine better will jump in on this and shine a brighter light on it than I can.

    Thank you for your replies.

He's home now, he's doing better. Thank you for asking.

So I brought the truck to a mechanic, and he seems to think that Camshaft gear/sproket inline 4 intake isnt turning like it supposed to. (part number 13050-75010)
    Number 12 in the picture..
Because i have job interviews lined up in San Antonio, I have to bring it over there (115 miles away). im hoping that I can drive it and fix it in SA. Finger crossed nothing happens on the way? Bad idea?

Did he check the Oil Control Valve and OCV Strainer Filter. That is what controls the position of the suspected part # 12 above that you mentioned...
