Hi again everyone. Here is my supposedly powder coated 5 month old CBI bed rack. I would NOT recommend buying from CBI in the future.

They have offered to refund $200 for the powder coat only so far. The cost to strip, prep, and coat properly will obviously exceed that number.

    I paid $1350.

Poor craftsmanship at a premium price unfortunately.

Looks suspiciously like it was powdercoated after the corrosion had already started.

I wonder if it was sitting out somewhere and didn't get prepped properly : /

Hopefully this saves someone else from a big headache.

I will update if they offer anything else to fix this. Definitely not impressed with their initial resolution. There's another thread already that I found with a similar issue so it's a trend for CBI it seems.

I requested one of two things:

Option 1: they pay full cost for prep, coat, shipping (if needed) to get it coated properly.

Option 2: full return and refund they cover return shipping.

    Waiting on reply still

So, stuff being outside is just prone to being tortured by the elements.

Yeah, powdercoat shouldn't have that going on as I've had spray painted stuff last longer, but it's a truck accessory....rattle can that shit.

What's bugging me are some of those welds. The undercut is no biggie since it's just a bed rack and not something going under inspection, but there are a few booger welds that should've just received a flap disc

I totally disagree, If someone pays good money for product and extra for Powder Coat they should have gotten more then a year out of the product before anything like that happened. This is a company taken short cuts for profit.

CBI blows. Just check out their Yelp and BBB ratings. They've somehow managed to build themselves a social media following while simultaneously constantly screwing over their customers. Bunch of "overland" bros who someone won the algorithm lottery and got popular.
They screwed over a good friend of mine during covid and then she got stalked by one of their employees on Facebook. Fun stuff.

    Charge back for defective product.

So I had to quote your post to see what you actually said

How can you disagree if you're basically agreeing?

I stated the powdercoat shouldn't be as bad as it is for the OP.

Unless you just disagree about the rattle canning it.

That's ridiculous. The OP paid 1.4k for this which included powder coating. These aren't sliders that get dinged up by the rocks and things kicked up by the road. This is a bed rack. No excuse for a powder coat failing like that.
If you buy some cheapo Amazon armor sure, you can expect rust. But at this price point that's just inexcusable. Crap quality workmanship.

Bummer, I had a good experience with CBI. I did choose to PC locally though. Hope they make things right.

Sorry the way I read your post
So, stuff being outside is just prone to being tortured by the elements. (Yes it is but He paid extra money for Powder Coat to make it last and it should have lasted longer. YOU made it sound like it it was what it was!)

Yeah, powdercoat shouldn't have that going on as I've had spray painted stuff last longer, but it's a truck accessory....rattle can that shit. (To just rattle can that shit! I read that like you were saying it is your tough shit! Well that shouldn't be, he paid for a supposedly quality item and got burned)

I'm actually got the same issue, my rack isn't a year old yet and didn't make it one winter. My previous CBI last 3-4 year before it started doing this.
