I forked over the cash and went with the Cat Security shield. Easy to install on your own but you need jack stands or ramps and a step down bit. There are 4 addition holes that need to be drilled into the frame.

~45$ in metal and a can of spray paint (and a 6 pack o beer to my buddy who I borrowed the welder from).

(pre paint and final attachment). Using 3 different types of bolts (standard hex, cap and button head) so 3 different tools would be needed to remove.

Motorweek simple solution. Along the lines of making it more difficult so the thief looks for an easier target.

I mean, do you leave your keys in the ignition with the doors unlocked when you park? Probably not. Why? Because the security feature of locking the doors and taking the keys with you makes it harder and more time consuming to steal your truck.

IF my cat gets stolen, it is god telling me to straight pipe my truck!!

I don't have any shitty inspection to pass except some safety stuff - eg. do your lights and such work -
so IF this happens, I have zero intention of actually fixing it..

That has nothing to do with piece of shit thieves running around with battery powered cut off and recip saws in their car, looking for an easy victim. If the recycling centers/scrap metal buyers could be made to STOP paying for cats, the problem would go away.

Just installed the Cat Security on my 07. Being my truck is lifted just used a floor jack to raise the plate into place... no need for jack stands. I installed the side shields security fasteners (LOL) with red loctite and the 4 fasteners that required drilling into the crossmember with blue loctite.
I think it's more of a time thing for them... they look for easy targets not one that they'd have to spend too much time under.

This. It's all about making them harder to steal. There's no way to 100% protect anything on your truck, it's all about taking precautions to dissuade would be thieves from targeting it.

If you have ever seen a video of someone stealing a cat, without protective measures on the vehicle, they can have it off your car/truck and in their getaway car in under 30 seconds. They don't want to be there long enough to get caught.

We specifically engineered our MillerCAT Tacoma CatShield so it doesn't require drilling into the subframe of your vehicle.. And we use patented tamperproof security hardware to prevent thieves from removing your shield. And we use zinc coated rivet nuts to prevent galvanic corrosion. The list goes on.. That's why Toyota Motors chose us over the competition as their only recommended catalytic converter theft-deterrent solution listed in Toyota's Associated Parts catalog and available at any Toyota dealership nationwide. We do our research, we run tests over and over again to ensure our customers will receive the best quality product. Have any questions? Give us a call at 408-510-5224. We're here for you.
