Catalytic converter theft protection?

Point me in the direction of theft prevention of a catalytic converter. Ugh

 

A y-pipe like the one from URD will eliminate the back two making there no need for theft prevention.

There was a guy selling a jeep in his yard by the road with a front tire parked on top of a boulder for a few days... I wondered how long that cat would last! Don't make it easy for anyone

 

I good motion sensing car alarm, and the ability to auto start from your phone. Imagine having some asshole stealing your exhaust and having the engine light off in his face.


Another option is to leave a set of cheap jack stands out front to entice them to use, karma will take care of the rest.

I should mention that Ive got a 2008 4cyl 4WD manual. Not finding much out there in bolt-on shielding.

Or a URD Y-pipe.

 

Ill be making up a expanded steel guard that goes in the area of the accessible cats. some 1in square tubing frame welded up with the expanded steel welded to it, should be under 100$ and a great peace of mind and still allow airflow around the cats to keep them cool as intended stock.

It's not just Calf. and Wash. having the problems. I've read that many urban areas across the country are having the same issue.

Thankful that I live and work in a rural area. Although with that said, on a bow hunting forum I read that a guy in Illinois was archery deer hunting and when he came out to his truck he found that someone had stolen his cats, while his truck was parked along the road, in a very rural area.

 

It does but I believe it's removing both.

 

Yes as mentioned above, this gets rid of both of them. Makes the exhaust sound very raspy if you just leave the stock exhaust alone and install this. There is not a y-pipe on the 4 banger since the exhaust manifold is on only the passenger side. Also, this will set a Check engine light (P0420) unless you locate some sort of o2 simulator that will keep the OEM ecu happy

 

Bought ~45 bucks in materials today to make some expanded steel shields that will get welded up here over the next day or two. CatShield is nice n all but 300+ ehhh no thanks.

 

Because I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing I posted this in the 3rd gen a few days ago. Be careful, revenge can be deadly, just ask this Prius.
