Started her up this morning only to now be driving a straight piped Tacoma. Turned it off after a split second and already knew that someone had taken my catalytic converter. I am now out $1,100, but I suppose its how life goes sometimes. After a fews days reading about them being stolen in my city too!

Guys, if you are scared of it getting stolen or anything else getting messed up dont wait for it to happen. Buy a cat shield if you want, but atleast get a decent comprehensive insurance.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
If you never got the recall cat installed you may be able to get it replaced for free at the dealer

Very sorry to hear this OP.

The Talon CAT plate was in my thoughts within a month or so of signing on here in Sep 2021.

I was fortunate from May 14, 2021 until Oct 2021 but I do feel better knowing I have the Talon.

Still waiting on elected officials to start locking up these criminals. Locking them up will prevent thefts and could break their dependency on drugs if just in the short term. Letting them walk without breaking their drug cycle only incourages more thefts.

The crackheads around Vancouver are getting more inventive, they pull up in their car throw a chain around the exhaust and drive away with your cat and whatever else comes with it. No risk of getting caught under the truck

Doesnt insurance cover this? Im sure youd have a 500 dollar deductible or something. But at least its not the entire cost.

An inexpensive and effective option is having a muffler shop weld a length of HARDENED steel rod directly to the exhaust pipe before and after the cat as well as on the cat itself. Do not use rebar, it’s too soft. Hardened steel will dissuade a thief unless they have a carbide blade and all the time in the world. The steel rod should be about $25-$40 and shop labor will be less than 1 hour. Heck, have them weld 2 or 3 full length rods….

If you want your cat security shield to also function as a skid plate check out Talon‘s Garage. I installed mine a couple weeks ago. Easy install.

Prius and hybrids in general are big targets since the hybrid system usually means the cats are in great shape (worth more) even with higher mileage.

Some would be thief out here in OC got flattened underneath a Prius he was trying to cut the cats off of when his jack failed. +1 for karma
